What is the procedure: for highlighting and replying to only that part of the post, that you desire to reply to......?

Just delete what you don't want to quote. :)

I hit the " REPLY button, then manually edit out the stuff I don't want, leaving the stuff in square brackets untouched. Note the potential for mischief because you can also add stuff to the quote that was not there originally.

Kiloran- How do you do the quote from multiple people in one post? I am sure it isn't hard

Hit reply to each of them, then copy and paste them together in your real reply.

    Code:
    [quote=andyprius,Dec 20 2005, 06:18 PM]
    It works!  Thanks
    [right][snapback]176501[/snapback][/right]
    [/quote]

    And for another quote:

Kiloran- How do you do the quote from multiple people in one post?  I am sure it isn't hard
    [right][snapback]176803[/snapback][/right]
    [/quote]

The above code gives you this:

The simplest way to do this is to open NOTEPAD.exe or some similar application that you can paste into.
Click the reply button for a post you want to quote and copy the contents of the reply window to your clipboard and paste it into NOTEPAD.
Hit the back button and repeat for another post you want to quote.
In this way, you can collect the quotes for each post you want to include.

Finally, copy the contents of NOTEPAD to your clipboard.
Hit the "Add Reply" button for the thread you want to post to and paste into the edit window.

You can remove unwanted text from the quote(s) prior to posting.
Also, you can insert your own text between quotes, etc...

    There is an easier method.

Click on the [IMG] button at the bottom of each post that you want quoted in your post.

Then, when you click on the [IMG] button at the bottom of the thread, all the quotations that you designated will appear in the reply window.

Thanks! I wondered what the QUOTE button did.

Yeah, I too wondered why it never "worked" for me. Hitting it changes the button from + to -, so I figured I could then reply without quoting.

Is there an instruction manual to this site? So many features I am sure we don't know many of them. Like Outline, Standard, Linear. Don't see much difference between them.

What is the algorithm for the New Posts icon (that orange and white semaphor). It doesn't always work right, going to the end of the thread even though I have not read posts above it. Also in the forum list, it may indicate no new messages in a forum, but when I go into the forum, there are indeed topics with posts I have not read.

Keep in mind, also, that you do not need to quote anyone. I went into my profile settings and set it to always expand the "Fast Reply". If you don't have it expanded, you might overlook it and not know what I'm talking about.

On the bottom of every page is the [IMG] button. Click that and the "Fast Reply" box opens up. Type your response and click the [Add Reply] button.

I have been using that "fast reply" a lot, it just doesn't pop up the emoticons. But you can still use emoticons by clicking on the "Show smilies pop up window link"

NOW, I have discovered my post count will go down when I quote multiple people rather than doing multiple replies...hmm. Am I too much of a bean counter?????

You can also use the [IMG] at the top of the page. [IMG]

While you can use the Add Reply button on the top of the page, I personally would advise against it. If you are knee-jerk reacting to the original post, then you are missing the discussion that's taken place throughout the thread.

For example, in threads containing the infamous (YOU) command, the trick is often explained about a dozen posts into the thread. And yet, there is post after post of people wondering what they did to be referenced by name. Clearly they did not read the entire thread before they responded.

True, it sure is the right way to go if you don't want to include a quote, innit? B)
