I wonder if anyone can advise on aftermarket headlamps for a Prius 3 please?

Our right hand headlamp is full of condensation and now the electric adjustment has also failed - the motor has burned out.

A new genuine Toyota lamp is over £300 from the main dealer so I'm wondering about a cheaper solution.

I'm nervous to buy a secondhand one on ebay in case it also has a failed motor.

I've tried the two types of Depo headlamps from europcarparts but despite them both claiming to be electric adjustment neither of them come with the motor. One incidentally was £144, the other £171 so i was hoping the more expensive one would be good, but they look identical.

There are some pretty unclear instructions in both about motor fitment - looked like they were actually the same piece of paper. Finally i think they expect you to swap in the motor from your old lamp but mine is broken, and it also doesn't seem to be a removable part anyway, it's not available from Toyota either who say the motor is part of the lamp.

I've removed these motors before on other cars - e.g Nissan Micra. This Prius one definitely doesn't seem to want to come out cleanly.

    Can anybody advise please?

    Thank you

Is this the two projector LED setup If so I think you're kind of screwed on those but I'm not sure about that anymore I didn't think the aftermarket had pick those up yet but if you're ordering them from somewhere like Depot then we must be talking about the single projector non LED regular generation 3 but I didn't realize those had motors in them for adjustment so this is some high-end trim model or something like that and I believe Toyota has you screwed with these pretty good as you are seemingly finding out

Hi Tom, thanks for responding. Our lamps aren't LED, they're just halogen. These motors adjustment headlamps seem to pretty common in the UK from what I've seen on ebay.

Yeah I think it's just saying in the UK and Europe those automatic adjusting headlights I don't think it's that big of a thing here unless you have HID or something along those lines and then the ones you're finding seem to be broken and non-serviceable that's the part that interests me the most even though they're common there it seems that they're not fixable or something along those lines

Okay I had a play around with the old headlamp and the motor does actually come out. After twisting the motor unit you then have to turn the hexagonal head anticlockwise and completely wind it out, its a lot of turns.
So then it's just a case of removing the manual adjuster from the Depo headlamp as per their supplied instructions and fit your old motor in it's place. So I'll just have to try and get hold of a motor from somewhere.
    Thanks
