Replace Headlights with LED

I've been using these LED headlights for almost 2 years now. They work great and are brighter than the stock headlights, but not too bright.

I use these ones as well! They are a great cost-effective LED bulb, I have had mine for a little over a year and have had no problems!

 

I got a set that makes light I'm very happy with, but the included drivers produce enough RFI to make my radio nearly useless when they're turned on. Something to think about.

Might be solvable with some cleverness, ferrites, and shielding, but who has the time?

One possible unintended consequence to keep in mind, depending on the price-point of the set.

 

I have a question in this LED headlight replacement for HiD. Does it cause light pollution or should I say will the opposite driver be blinded and unsafe? Thanks...

 

The trick is to build an LED replacement with very small LED sources positioned exactly where the filament of the original incandescent bulb went. Then the original projector optics will focus the light very nicely and you will see a very clear cutoff at the upper edge, to keep it out of other drivers' eyes.

There definitely are some LED replacement bulbs that manage to pull that off. By the same token, as far as I know, the US DOT (which sets the regulations) hasn't officially approved any, and the official regulation is still if your car was built for incandescents, then incandescents it must have.

 

Thank you for the excellent reply. That might be an option in the future if I need to change my HiD. I normally would like to keep everything original in the prius for its stock reliability and its been a good work vehicle. I just learned that after one of the headlights failed, I was going to replace everything new including the resistors and surprisingly it will cost me almost 500. So its something to think about in the future. Thanks,
But if I ever go that that route, I'll get in touch with this site again to get more info in the light replacements.The one thing I notice as I get older, my eyes are having difficulty reading on LED rights not like incandescent. I own a few classic cars and the one that I can see the clearest is my old Austin Healey with an H4 halogen lights. It might not be visually bright from outside but I can see spot on very clear even on foggy mornings. My old 911 has H4 asymmetric. That car can really penetrate even on fogs and the vision is wide without polluting the other the drivers vision.
