Replace factory model 57031 with 57032 to get HD radio

My 2014 and 2015 Prius 2 factory radios have bluetooth and backup camera and are marked
57031 on front panel. (both are touch screen) No JBL.
If I use a 57032 labeled HD Radio I might just get HD if it requires no extra add ons.

At first I got all ambitious thinking I could add the Navigation radios, but those do require
the GPS module, which looks possible without a lot of trouble.
And I do not really need or care about navigation (external cell phone and GPS is all I need).

But I thought HD radio might be nice. I want to use the steering wheel controls and do
want the closest plug-and-play swap I can do. I want the bluetooth phone and smart phone access.

So the questions is, will the 57032 swap into a 57031 from a wiring and operational point of view.
Dimensions and connections look the same.

Maybe someone here has gone further and can list which radios replace a 57031.

If this has been posted I apologize, I searched on 57031 and 57032 and radio swaps and
did not get what I was looking for.

I'm afraid I can't be of any help, but I have the same question regarding my 2013 Prius Two: Is the HD / satellite radio a drop-in replacement for the non-sat touchscreen HU? I think there's an additional antenna required for satellite reception, but I'm only interested in HD.

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere! Maybe if two of us ask, we'll find an answer... unless you've taken the leap and tried it?

    SUCCESS!

I figured it was a logical enough swap to take a chance on, so I picked up a 57032 head unit on eBay for $200. Dropped right in, with all cables in the exact same positions. The HU I bought actually came with the nav unit, but no connecting cable, so I left it bolted on, but not connected.

The HD radio sound is SO much better than regular analog FM, and everything else still works. No sat, nav, or apps, of course, because I didn't install antennas or cables for those, but with the stock connectors, everything else works just the same: USB, AUX, and steering wheel controls all fine.

I'm afraid I forgot to pair my phone, but I expect it will also work just fine.

One little thing to be aware of: if you disconnect the battery when you do the install, the indicators on the dash will light up like a Christmas tree the first time you start the car, but will go back to normal on the second start up. The manual suggests starting up in ACCessory mode first, but I didn't read that until afterward!

Huh, you would think all the apps require would be bluetooth, unless they are running in the extension box you didn't hook up. I dropped a 57031 in my 2010 and have toyed with the idea of getting a 57032.

Yeah, I kinda thought the apps would run, too, but it just says "not connected." Maybe the apps needed the extra memory in the extension box to run.

Or... "Not connected" could mean that the HU wasn't connected to my phone! Hmm...

I'll update when I fiddle with it some more.

UPDATE: Turns out I mis-remembered the message on the screen. It actually said "System not installed," which is much less ambiguous!

I registered for Entune and installed it on my phone, but with the extension box disconnected, all I get is the above message. Otherwise, bluetooth connectivity is that same as it was with the 57031 unit.

BTW, I didn't install a satellite antenna, either, and the HU says "Check antenna" when I try to use it.

My 57032 was having reboot issues and got sick and tired of it. Picked up a replacement unit on eBay and replaced the bum unit. Everything works without reboots.

Anybody wants the extension box? I don't have the loopback cable since I had to re-use it. You pay shipping and it's yours.

Based on your experience with this, I have a question that I'm having trouble getting a clear answer on. We have a 2014 Prius Two. The factory radio has only am/fm/cd/blue tooth and touch screen. No xm, backup or nav. Is it possible to get a factory unit that does have xm and hopefully "drop in"? Will the existing antennae work or does it take a different one? Obviously this would be a less expensive route as opposed to a complete after market set up. Thx

The factory unit from a Prius Three or Prius Four will "drop in" very easily. That will get you digital HD FM (which I love), but the XM and the GPS are BOTH separate antennas. I didn't install the antennas, but you should be able to find low-cost aftermarket antennas that will work (The Prius uses square connectors for both). The tricky part is getting them up underneath the dash without taking the whole dash apart.

Both antennas--small, square-ish blocks--basically need to be mounted so there's no metal between them and the sky. The factory units accomplish this by mounting high up inside the dash, under the windshield. You might be able to just poke them in somewhere from the radio opening, but I found an OEM installation manual that instructed installers to take apart the whole dash... which is kind of a Chinese puzzle box affair involving the speakers, window pillars and Lord knows what else.

Of course, you can also mount them on top of the dash, or even on the roof somewhere, but you need to find a place for the wires to pass through. Search for threads on satellite antenna installation.

I did get the 57032 for replacement of the 57031. I found on another forum the following antennae adaptor
after the easy swap in units and connecting the adaptor and Sirius antennae I get "check antennae" on the display and obviously no signal. The AM/FM/HD work fine. Maybe the adaptor is incorrect? Thought from anyone?

Well, I got no idea--I didn't bother to hook up the other antennas.

This might be a dumb question, but is there any chance you have the adapter in the wrong socket? IIRC, the connectors for the GPS and XM are the same; just different colors. And not a damned thing is labelled back there!

Great point and I do see what you are talking about. For some reason I cant get the adapter plug into the "blue" plug on the back of the head unit. It will only work on the "gray" plug next to what I believe is the "gray" FM antennae plug. Is the "blue" plug for the GPS?

From what I can piece together online, I think the blue one is the satellite antenna jack. No idea why it won't fit. :(

The blue one is the one that degrades my satellite reception if I unplug it. :)

Here are some visuals. The first is the 57031 that was in our 2014 Prius Two. The second is the 57032. As you see here, there are a couple more plug ins (for XM antennae and maybe NAV?). Can anyone tell me what the "blue" plug is for? I'm assuming the lower left is for the XM antennae as that is the only place the adapter for the XM will plug into. The one to the right is for the FM. Anyway this is the second unit I've tried and I still get "check antennae" is SAT mode. HELP! THx

The thin "Karman" box on the bottom is the nav/apps unit, and that's where the GPS plugs in. I'm, like, 80% sure that the blue one on the upper right is the XM antenna.

Earlier Priuses had a satellite radio box mounted under the seat, which did have a gray connector. Maybe that's what your cable is intended for. It does say "up to 2013" in the description.

I do recall seeing a thread somewhere about shaving off a plastic tab on the housing of something to fit... maybe they were talking about the XM antenna. You might see if shaving off one of the ridges on the top of the plug will make it fit into the blue socket.

Of course, if you do that, you won't be able to return the cable if it doesn't work.

But if it does work... :)

I performed the same sort of upgrade on my 2013 Prius V. The junkyards just chop off all the connectors at once when removing the unit. You almost never get the connector between the Extension Box and the Main Box.

I found that if the connector is missing, the apps button will result in the "System Not installed" message. I used the my new unit for a week as an HD Radio upgrade, and I was able to place and receive calls over bluetooth. But what I couldn't do was to play music from my phone over Bluetooth.

I found the correct part number for this connecting cable, and ordered it from the dealer... surprisingly only about $35. There were delays in getting it. Then I found the same cable on Amazon for $30.02 Prime Free shipping. I got it, and plugged it in, and the Apps button started working! I can play music from my phone, or Pandora via Entune. I am having issues getting the Navigation to correctly, but I am just getting started.

Search amazon for "Genuine Toyota Accessories PT296-47120-AB Wire Harness", which is the correct part number for a 2013 Prius V. Your cable is likely to have a different part number (Prius V stereos are NOT interchangable with regular Prius's).
