Hello Does anyone know if the faston/eye lug connecting to the aux battery can be replaced with a more common type like the image below? Or does the OEM one have some kind of special function? I've never seen a eye lug like that so I don't know if it's special somehow. Thanks! OEM:
When you mass produce vehicles, in this case the wiring harness you do so in such huge numbers that you can cut costs by ordering a huge batch of terminal connectors to to be made that don't look like anything you can buy from a terminal maker that's sold direct to consumers. Anything you replace it with will not only work just as well, but if you've a sharp eye for quality there's very little for sale that won't be an upgrade to higher quality. And while you're at it, you might as well upgrade the battery to a 55amp-hour higher capacity 12v mobility/backup computer power battery.
Now for a dissenting viewpoint, this particular OEM connector will conduct much more current than the one you propose to replace it with. The OEM is copper, or at least copper-plated, and it has MUCH more surface area that lays flat against the backing plate. Also, the lock nut is also designed with extra surface area to take full advantage of the wider connector. Anything less and you won't get as much electrical flow when the demand is high.
I'd agree with you if this was a standard vehicle that depended on big cranking amps to start the engine... But the amps involved to keep car in ready mode is much, much less. And as I said if: "you've a sharp eye for quality" your new terminal can be an upgrade... It's hard to say for certain with just pics, but I tend to agree with your basic point.
I agree with Pluggo, but here is the largest commercial eyelet I was able to google, It takes 0 AWG wire and has a 1/2 inch hole for the bolt. (0 AWG is also called 1/0 AWG, it is good for 125 A, ) Panduit 1/0 AWG Non-Insulated Ring Terminal 1/2" Stud PK10 S1/0-12R-X | Zoro.com
