    Can I replace a 2005 base radio # 51807 with 2006 radio # 51824 ?
I've searched and have not found any info on this specific swap.

Check the pinouts for both units. If they match it should work.

I put a "Base" 2006 radio/CD in my 2004 with no problems. Call Steve at Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle PHEV (That's where I got the replacement unit) and he will confirm.

Thanks for responding guys but I really am hungry for the numbers on the face of the radios that can replace the 51807 radio. How about it?

Looks like they are exchangeable as they have the same connectors.

Yup, looks like an easy job but does anyone have experience with this 51807 with 51824 swap to confirm it works?

Good luck, you've narrowed it down to a very specific swap. You may get to be the test pilot on this one!

Yup, got the radio today. I'll attack it this weekend and update. Wish me luck.

Ok, done. It does not play MP3's on CD's but I hacked & spliced a 3.5mm headphone jack into it so I'm very happy. I followed another thread in this forum for this.

I will record MP3 tracks at different bitrates and maybe that'll get it working. There are an additional 3 wires whose functions are unknown to me and maybe that has something to do with it.

Nice work! I'm guessing the unit will play MP3s but you have to get the format just right. Read your Prius owners manual for some clues and also search for MP3s on PriusChat. It took me several tries burning MP3s before I got one the radio liked (format-wise). I assume the AUX works even though you didn't mention it.

Never had problems playing MP3s through an MP3-compatible player. I believe the decoding (MP3/CDA) takes place within the CD player and the outputs are analog. In which case, if you are getting output from CDA (a CD), you should be getting output from MP3 CDs also.
