I recently had to replace the12 volt battery in my 2002 Prius. After replacing the battery, the radio made a buzzing sound for a while and there was feedback but now it makes no sound. The radio and the GPS no longer works. I have the Miata battery conversion in my Prius and I've checked all the fuses. I've been digging through the archive and have really found no direction. Any insight would be a great help.
I spoke too soon. I went to pick up my son from work and I got the dreaded red triangle. Trouble code 3006. Disregard the title of this thread. I'm reading up on tackling the rebuild of the HV battery. Where exactly can I get the Techstream diagnostic software? It sounds like a tool I'm going to need to invest in. I've investigating and clearing codes with my OBDII scanner only.

When I bought my car, it had a Mazda Miata battery in it. I searched online for a Miata battery Prius configuration and I found a kit for sale on the Elearnaid site. I assume the previous owner must have at some point converted his 12v configuration with this kit.
I had this issue on my car, it was the speakers and wiring. The speakers had deteriorated to the point they were shorting out.
I'm actually looking into the possibility of a short because there is feedback or intermittent buzzing from time to time when I start the car.
The first place id check is under the rear trunk lid where there is access to the rear speakers. I bumped into them while i had the radio on and noticed it caused the same interference i had been experiencing intermittently. Upon further inspection I found the paper cone was all dry rotted and falling apart. A tip if you decide to replace them. Use the old speaker to make an adapter and save yourself a few bucks. Snip the wire as far up as you can and cut the plastic connect out of the body of the speaker. put some shrink tubing over the bare wire, use butt connectors or solder to connect those bare wires to the wiring that comes with the new speakers, and you have yourself a free speaker adapter without making any modification to the factory wiring.
No visible short, but suddenly I'm getting the radio playing, on the default 87.9fm channel(sounds like a not so perfectly tuned latin radio station), still no control of the radio power, volume, nothing...and still no console controls, MAP, DIRECTIONS, etc. I bought the Techstream, but it doesn't run on my Windows 10 tablet yet so I'm still fiddling with it. I was told it needs a Javascript update that can only be gotten through IE instead of the Microsoft Edge that is my default browser.
So I've got the Techstream software working on my Windows 10 laptop, but it shows no condition of the HV batteries. I assume it's because I cleared the code with my OBDII scanner the last time I got the red triangle. Now I'm driving it, attempting to recreate the red triangle condition so that maybe the software will pick it up and give me a detailed report of the weak cells. Oh, and the radio is still on...and it's louder. Time to pull it and look for clues.
