I recently got an estimate of nearly $3K to replace an 11.6” head unit that has stopped responding to touch. Otherwise, as display only, it continues to work. The service advisor at my local Toyota dealership recommended contacting Toyota Customer Care personally and pleading my case before agreeing to any paid service. I’ve owned nothing but Prius vehicles since 2002 (‘02 & ‘13 before this ‘20 Prime XLE) and had near zero out of pocket repair costs. Naturally, with that history, I declined any extended warranty offers. Now, at 75000 ODO miles, I’m finding life with an unresponsive touch screen most annoying, but there are work-arounds for most, but definitely not all, needs using voice commands and Apple CarPlay. I spoke with a friendly voice at Toyota Brand Engagement Center (?) who said she'd research the situation and get back to me. Sadly, the only call-back I got, a few days later, was from the local dealer who had given me the $3k estimate, and who patiently explained that no, my warranty doesn't cover this, which was obvious from the start. Alas, no attempt to reduce the cost.

I've seen Chinese touchscreen replacements, claimed to be a correct fit for my head unit, on eBay for around $200.

Has anyone attempted one of these repairs, and if so, were they successful? I AM without JBL and also, I guess, without "BJL" as well. I do want to maintain Apple CarPlay though. I understand that the problem I'm experiencing could be something deeper than simply a faulty touchscreen, but maybe it's worth a try at $200 vs. $3000...

If you go back to the 2nd generation section of this site you'll find threads about people replacing the digitizer (only the touch-sense digitizer, not the display or head unit) for that version of the car.

I haven't heard of anyone doing this for a 2018, you might be the first.

As always, there's inexpensive subscription access to the repair manual, which might show the steps required for replacement. I don't know if digitizer-only replacement is something Toyota normally does, so it may not be documented in their official manual.

i did it 2 times, but use touch screens from water flood cars, it is easy.
