    Hello everyone!

I got my Prius about two weeks ago and its awesome, but of course my buddy has to go and ruin it. While he was taking his seat belt off, it flew out of his hand and hit the window. The passenger side window now has a little chip in it.

Does anyone know of a system for removing a chip in the window? I'm scared to use the "Windshield Repair Kit" I've seen at Autozone because its a tinted window.

    Yes.

Step One: Threaten buddy's life unless he covers the expense of having a brand new window installed in your brand new Prius.

Step Two: Save your friendship by offering to pay for the tinting of the new window yourself.

    :p ;)

I got some chips on the OUTSIDE of the windshield, and took it to Dee's Window Repair in Midway City, California (a TINY city near Westminster CA in Orange County CA). They did the resin injection thing - it worked out pretty well.

Your chip is on the inside, but you might want to try to have a place like Dee's do the work.

I was impressed - I can barely see (it's still there though) the chips.

I talked to the dealer today. They said its actually just a chip in the tinting and not the glass of the window... which makes me feel a little better.

Do people with tinting commonly build up these little chips on the tint (I've never had tinted windows)?

Tinting is just a colored film applied to the window. It should work just like the clear bra film on the hood or bumper. The film is designed to protect the panel underneath. It sounds like the tint did its job protecting your car from your friend.

I wouldn't pursue the matter with your friend. But you have the right to bust on him every time he gets in the car. Maybe he should ride in the back seat where he doesn't need to wear the belt.
