It took about a half hour. Some dental floss, some rubbing with my fingers (to help remove the double sided tape) and some WD-40 (I couldn't find my Goo Gone) and voila! Maybe the "Toyota" symbol is next, does anyone know if those are held with more than the tape?

careful if you remove the toyota symbol. i've heard the one on the hood isn't taped on, but attached through the hood. the on on the hatch may be the same.

as for the milage, i'm sure it would help, but i doubt you wouild ever see any difference.

Some of the classics didn't have Toyota emblems on the front at all.

I did the same the day I brought my car home. Do NOT remove the Toyota emblems. They are held on with tape the same way, but also use two locating holes through the skin. The holes do nothing but locate two pins (not held on that way) but they're there, and you have to deal with them if removed.

Next time do yourself a favor and skip the floss, and go straight ti heat. Comes off complete and neat. No extra rubbing later. I only use floss as a last resort.

Did you get the front hybrid emblems off too? I'm getting 16mpg more now.

Not the same subject but, I use Kerosene to remove road tar, adhesive, etc off my cars. You can even use baby oil if you don't have Kerosene. It just takes longer to soften up the adhesive or tar. I learned this 'trick' when I worked at a Chevy dealership last century.

That's next weekend, I completely forgot about those little buggers. What did you use to heat them up a hair dryer?

WD-40 and kerosene can be considered equivalent in almost all ways. They work equally well at paint cleaning.

I use an adjustable temp heat gun. A hair dryer would work just as well as long as your wife doesn't catch you. The other trick is using a non-scratching prying tool. I sharpen the end of a birch popcycle stick (the flat way to make a spatula out of it) and work that around the edges, eventually getting to the point where the whole thing lifts off cleanly. After you do it 20 times, it is a pretty quick. clean process. Just wax when you're done, and it looks better than new.

You got 16mpg more from removing the rear and side scripts?

Thats a good one! If thats the case everyone would remove them for the 16mpg..

It does look sleeker w/o scripts though

I also got 12 more mpg from removing the wheel covers, and 6mpg more for the wax job. After replacing the antenna with the shark fin, I'm up to about 312mpg. Next I'll try folding the mirrors in and going to 90psi in the tires.

On my previous car, I did the opposite. All my hiking buddies have four-wheel drive cars, which I think is silly. Any passenger car can get to 99% of the places we go.

I went to the junk yard and found a 4x4 emblem, then glued it on the back of my Volvo 240DL station wagon. Voila! Instant 4x4 car. All it cost was a little JB-weld epoxy. Mileage was not appreciably changed (sorry to say), but it handled on gravel roads a heck of a lot better.

OK... we're getting just a weee bit off-topic here. But I'm glad to hear your mileage didn't drop with the 4x4 mod. Probably be a different story if you lock the hubs though...

I trust you'll be using helium in the tires to decrease the weight. :)

If you live in a warmer climate, you don't even need a hairdryer/heatgun to remove the emblems. On both of my Prius, I removed them the day I got them home, and I just lifted an edge and kept outward pressure on it, and they slowly peeled loose. If you do it slowly enough, you'll leave little to no tape behind, and anything left behind can be rubbed/rolled off by hand, there's no need for solvents.

The first thing my father used to do when he brought home a new car was to take the dealer's ID off it, whether it was a decal or a license plate frame. His reasoning was that the dealer wasn't paying him to advertise for them.

With that said, what is the motivation behind removing the emblems?

I'm not a fan of raised emblems. They make washing/waxing a PITA, and the chrome emblems are a bit much.

It makes for a cleaner look on the car.

One of these days I'm going to have some Toyota logo decals made exactly the same size as the chrome ones, so I can remove them and still cover the locating holes left behind. I'll probably go with black decals, I think that would look nice on the Barcelona background.

I haven't bought the lexan hood deflector yet, as none of the stores that carry it have answered as to whether they can get one from the manufacturer without the cutout for the emblem. If anyone has bought one of them and it came with any contact info for the manufacturer, please send it to me, so I can contact them. I'd really prefer one without the cutout, it looks a little silly with that Toyota emblem sticking out of the middle.

;) My "B-S" filters are getting stopped up.

GEEZ... I must've gained at least 16 MPG after I replaced the OEM whip antenna with a 2" stub. ...and if you believe that... I have some waterfront property for sale in Okefenoke Acres in Florida.

Same as what talonts said. The more relevant question in my mind is, "why have them?"

I remove them because I like the cleaner look. It is easier to wash and wax. It looks different. Tasks like this keep me off the streets. I strip them all off of everything I own.

My favorite are the ones that say 4x4, or V10, or 6cyl. Do people REALLY need to advertise all the little aspects about the car? Why not a sticker with "leather interior" or "carpeted floor mats!"? I sure don't need to tell anybody that I have a hybrid... at least not in the PRIUS!
