Recurring Inverter Issues and IPM Class Action Suit

    I have Prius Gen 3 2014. I had a blowup Gasket , which I tried to seal and eventually junked my engine for JDM engine. The JDM engine ran fine but I started have cooling issues everytime I went over 65 mph for long stretches.

    My prius had served me well, I decided to invest in it. For about 5700 $$ in 2022 , I replaced the inverter and gas pump with all the fluids. And I am here 2 years and 15000 miles later with the same inverter problem

    I started to have the same heating issues a week ago at over 65 mph. Took it to toyota and they are recommending the same route of spending another 5K. I did my research even send them a copy of this document - Remy McCarthy, et al., v. Toyota Motor Corp., et al. . They would not honor it. They their customer program does not cover this.

    What are my options at this point ? Go to a lawyer or the Junkyard ?

    All that "sealer" has sealed the radiator and heater core and all the small passages
    in the cooling system, coolant pump, thermostat.... You'll have to replace those parts
    and/or try to clean them out.
    Gas pump???? Did you mean inverter pump, or coolant pump???
    Did you replace the inverter pump along with the inverter?

    You could repair it yourself, AND sue them. You may have to pay the lawyer because if
    he/she doesn't know they can win, they won't take the case.

    Without all the details, not sure what you should do.

    Okay, did you replace the thermostadt also? Very likely clogged.

    Also given the inverter , water pump is fairly new ( 2022) . Are you suggesting I only change the coolant pump , thermostat.?

    I dont think the thermotstat was replaced.

    I'm guessing that you have two issues???? Engine overheating, and inverter overheating?
    Or inverter failing?

    ENGINE:
    I "guess" you put fake sealer in it. Did NOT fix the blown heat gasket. But it did clog up the
    radiator, heater core, coolant pump, thermostat, and all the small passages in the cooling system.
    Those parts need to be cleaned out or replaced so that the coolant can flow to keep the engine
    at the proper temperature.

    INVERTER:
    I have no indea what the issue was with the inverter. I was asking if you replaced the inverter
    coolant pump when you replaced the inverter, or had it replaced.
    Did you replace, or have replaced, the inverter with a new one? Have it repaired? Or used one?
    If you are having the same issue, then perhaps the inverter coolant pump was failing? And perhaps
    it is just functiong barely enough untill you go fast that it cannot keep up?

    As for a lawyer, you'd have to talk to one about the issue with the inverter.

    I am gleaning over the bill of materials when I replaced the inverter. And no it does not show that I replaced the water coolant pump.

    Also if it helps , it only heats up when I use the AC/heater . If I dont use the heater/AC the car runs fine at freeway speeds - does that mean that my fairly new inverter is still good and changing the heatercore,. water coolant pump and thermostat should fix the issue.

    You'll need to test each part.
    And it depends on what is overheating. Is the inverter overheating? Or the engine???

    I am not a mechanic but my toyota dealer tells me that the fault code is P0A93 and then recommended that I change the coolant pump and inverter. But then the inverter was replaced 2 years ago OEM inverter that is.

    the question is - how did the toyota guys know that the inverter is bad ? They didnt have time to break it apart for sure. Because the diag was in 2 hrs.

    2 hours should be enough time using Techstream. Toyota software.
    It might be time to go to an independent shop that knows how to work on a Prius.
    It would cost a lot less.

    So are you saying that they have verified enough that the inverter IS BAD. The fault code per what I see on google is that P0A93 is the pump and P0A94 is inverter. I only have P0A93

    I can't say what THEY have done. I was not there.
    It is possible that the pump is failing or has failed and causing the inverter to
    over heat. Replacing the pump MAY resolve the problem.
    But, the inverter may have been damaged due to the failed coolant pump.

    You can always get a 2nd opinion from another place.

    To replace the inverter pump, you pretty much have to remove the inverter.

    Thanks the real concern is the root cause maybe something else since this is the second time around. The problem also is that I cant find a salvaged part G9200 - 49075
