Featured Record Hybrid Sales Lead 4.2% Overall Sales Growth for Toyota Canada Inc. in 2016

    (Doesn't a "more than doubled" imply that it's over a 100% increase? not a 54.2% increase?)

    The Prius c and Prius Liftback are the only Toyota passenger vehicles to see positive increase in sales for 2016. Even the venerable Corolla is down 3.3%. (Corolla is our best selling Toyota car with ~45,500 units compared to ~15.500 units for the Camry - the opposite of the U.S.)

    Of note, RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner and even Sequoia are on the positive side for 2016 vs. 2015.

    RAV4 is up 6,857 units
    Highlander is up 2,552 units
    4Runner is up 941 units
    Sequoia is up 34 units
    Tacoma is up 846 units
    Tundra is up 535 units

    On the Lexus side, the GS is the only passenger car to see growth (surprisingly since it's near the end of its cycle), up 25 units.


    TCI sold a total of 89,120 passenger cars and 128,672 light trucks & minivans for total of 217,792 vehicles.

    To put it into perspective, that's just under 9% of what TMS (soon to be TMNA) sold in in the U.S. in 2016 (2,449,630 vehicles)

    Interesting that the Prius c has actually seen a sales increase in Canada, while it's cratering in the US, and that it also outsold the Liftback (which also lost sales in the US).

    I also wonder if Dieselgate maybe had more of an effect in Canada, or something?

    Canada does have higher fuel costs than the US that could help the c.

    Did Canada get the Rav4 hybrid?

    The Prius c is also part of a car sharing program so some of the sales could be going to fleet (I don't know if those numbers reflect that or not). It's also easy to park.

    You bet we did. Toyota doesn't separate out the hybrid models but I bet the RAV4 Hybrid is outselling the Camry Hybrid (which was the former best selling hybrid)
