Record High 5,000 miles averaging 76.5 mpg on 2012 Toyota Prius (not a plug-in).

    And this is with the a/c on sometimes during the hot summer days here in Southwest Florida.

    i always drove 30mph roads and could never accomplish anything like that.

    On roads with a speed limit of 30 mph, I get about 90 mpg by pulsing lightly to 35 mph (using minimum gas allowed without the EV light kicking on, which happens to be right between the EV and ECO symbols,

    then gliding down to 27 mph (using a sliver of battery power),

    then repeat.

    If someone is directly behind me, I will glide down to 31 mph instead (or pull to the right side of my lane and hope they pass).

    As certain other members here have demonstrated, even 100+ mpg for extended distances is possible in Gen3s if one slows down even more to the 20-something mph range.

    Don't forget the Japanese hypermiling commuters who topped 100 mpg for whole tanks in Gen2s. And they had larger fuel tanks than the North American versions. I think the final one posted here was over 118 mpg for over 3000 km on a single tank (60 L over there, vs nominally 45 L for American-market tanks).

    I can get 100 mpg driving on 20 mph roads and subdivision streets. I use the same procedure as above, except pulsing to 25 mph, then gliding down to 17 mph.

    Plenty of the best hypermilers did it, years before the Prime and its plug-in predecessor existed. It just takes more patience than most American drivers possess.

    Unless you drive very slowly (under 40mph), and there are no other drivers on the road, and you
    don't have to stop, you might be able to do it.. Patience is a small part of it.
