OK, so I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new Vee and would like advice from those who already own some model of the Prii family.

Should one consider the Toyota extended warrant up front, after some period or not at all?

I personally would not waste my money on an extended warranty.

Here's a ton of other threads in which people talk about the extended warranty:

IF and that's a big IF you decide to purchase a warranty, there's no reason to do it until just before the factory 3/36 warranty expires. Also, price the Toyota warranty on line (search warranty on Priuschat) before considering buying at the dealer. The Genuine Toyota extended warranty is the same no matter where you buy it.

Thanks for the input Paradox and direstraits71.

The main reason I was considering a warranty extension is that I'm looking at the Prius V Five, loaded with electronics. That seems to indicate an expensive repair bill out of warranty if anything fails.

Generally speaking, it is not recommended to get an extended warranty. Places like Consumer Reports, et. al. all say it is a waste of money.

BUT, if you do consider it nonetheless, check out to see exactly what it does - and more importantly, does not - cover. Don't just blindly get it & assume it is a bumper-to-bumper full coverage thing. This is one place were reading the fine print is warranted.

I certainly appeciate your points. I have had to use a Lexus extended warranty several times and it has paid for itself and then some. Same Toyota parent :)

Then you're in the wrong forum. The Five isn't the v (wagon). It's called "five," not "vee."

The Five with ATP isn't any more likely to fail than the lower trims.

No, I'm in the right place. The Prius V (Vee, not Five) has three models and I am looking at the Prius V Model 5 - that;s the "Wagon" you refer to. It is distinct from the Prius 5.

I applaud your brevity as much as your candor. Thank you. :thumb:

    I stand corrected. A minor correction though: it's v, not V.

Put V and Five together and PC members here will think you're talking about the regular Prius Five.

I stand corrected by your correction. You are absolutely right that Vee is lower case.

It's the little things that matter most. Thanks for your observation and response.

v, not V? Five, not 'vee'? And is that model, or trim level? Oh, this is so confusing. I don't understand how Toyota came up with this system and thought it made perfect sense.

    btw, cool name, Fastronaut. :)
