I have been approached FOUR times already today by "concerned citizens" to let me know that the Prius has a recall. It's hilarious. I think people are actually feeling smug that the Perfect Prius may have an imperfection. I quickly tell them that mine is not part of the recall, the overall numbers are low, there have been no accidents related to the issue, AND that the recall was initiated by Toyota. I think I'm going to start checking recalls on other cars and be "helpful", too. Jeesh!

solution: go around as a 'concerned citizen' and remind them that they're filling up their car WAY too often

I know eh? they're pretty quick to pick up.. especially "Expedition". Oh how they love to envy us. Not to say, I'm being proud and cocky but all you can do is laugh when all they have to say against the Prius is one recall. One.. Ha!

I was hit up with this info as soon as I walked into work by one of these "concerned citizens". My E320 is plagued with recalls and never has anyone offered me any information. :(

They just feel they don't understand the prius and are already afraid of it... Toyota has to build 5 times better "and they do!" to overcome that crazy fear.

At least toyota puts out a recall BEFORE anyone gets killed rather than playing opossum until they have to admit there was a problem.

I can trust a company that doens't hide more than one that does.

I'm just wondering how long they've known about it?.... if the 2006's are not affected... they must have known about it for a while now eh?

I took possession of my new prius 2006 last month. I don't think mine fits in that recall batch right?

Most likely not. Again, just wait for the official letter from Toyota. If you don't receive one, you are in the clear.

It would appear they've known about it since November. And 2006s are affected, but it's just the early ones. At least so says the TMS rep in that other thread.

So can someone get under there and take some good *pictures* of the
2006 steering linkage parts, so we can compare then to the '04/05
and see exactly what might have been beefed up??

One of my friends moms called her today to let me know about the recall. And everyone in the office brought it up as if my car had a timebomb in it.
Im glad to see my friends mom who Ive met once is that concerned for my drivinf safety. All other concerned moms can write me at [email protected] if they feel the need to fulfill their civc duties.

I was thinking the same thing the other day, while I haven't had anyone come up to me and say anything. The cnn.com headline was something like, "Prius, among the one millions vehicles recalled." My 05 falls on the list and i'll get it taken care of. The thing is that the wording makes it sound as if the prius is the ONLY Toyota being recalled, which is untrue. Regardless, I'd rather have it fixed now then have something happen later, kudos to Toyota to step up to the plate and have it taken care of.

It is human nature for people to want to "tear" others down quicker than "building" themselves up.

When you are nearing the "top of the heap", everyone starts looking for faults. Whether it is things or people.

LOL, at least its not just us. We were approached 5 times today (we drove the Prius all day, gas man ouch) and I've gotten emails from family, friends, clients, colleagues etc.

What else can you do but graciously thank them for their concern?

Return the favor - find out what they drive and send them a list of all the recalls on their vehicle :)

SUGGESTED RETORT: "With 18 million vehicles recalled last year, I'm touched that you would inform me that Toyota is doing a preemptive safety recall to check my vehicle for a design flaw which has not caused any accidents or injuries. I just wish all car makers were this proactive in making repairs and getting the news out before people are injured or killed. It must have been a slow news day for it to become this big a deal." :p

The industry as a whole conducted 557 vehicle safety recalls last year, covering 18,050,631 vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
NHTSA also released its final numbers for each of the four largest manufacturers. Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. led the way with more than 6 million and 5 million vehicles recalled, respectively. Toyota Motor Corp. recalled 2.2 million vehicles last year. DaimlerChrysler AG followed with nearly 766,000 vehicles recalled.

Check your manufacture date on the black sticker on the driver's side. I picked mine up in January 06 and mine was made in December 05, so it should be unaffected.
