I currently have the rear bumper applique on my 2013 Prius v Three and want the rear plastic bumper instead. My question is can I install the rear plastic bumper protector over the applique? Has anyone tried it?

That's a great question. The clear one is easy to remove with a heat gun or even a hair dryer, patience, and then maybe Gone

I have a black applique on my '12. Pebble grain, thick. Fine after 40k miles and 5 years. But there are painted bumper edges around it that could get scratched. The ideal one would wrap from inside the trunk to the rear edge of the bumper.

I re-did the bumper protector on my Gen II shortly after I bought it, since I noticed that it had started to detach itself - the trick is to use alcohol to clean the surfaces, use double-sided tape, and a hair-dryer to get things nice and toasty, I did mine in the sub-zero temps of January, so it was particularly important to get things warm. Good luck!

Re bumper scratch protection / other drivers in family abusing my car...Has anyone found alternative to the clear oem optional protector? I see possible use of a poem black plastic protector from Rav 4 , Seinna , Scion models, Ford Explorer or GMC Enclave, big box stores sell a 3m product-a 4" wide roll of self adhesive stair tread tape by the foot, and or I thought i saw a aftermarket molding company that sold a black strip to cover / protect bumper from damage. Any ideas? Also still looking for a 1.5 -2" body side mold that oem that complements looks and works to keep door dings to a minimum.

Check out Ye Olde PriusChatte Shoppe, for a rear bumper protector. The previous owner had thoughtfully fitted one to my 2009 Gen II, but it had started to come loose, however it was a simple job to reattach using double-sided tape (and a hair-dryer) :)

The applique will peel off with a little heat and finesse, but you can also stick the plastic protector over it if you wish.

If the applique is adhering well to the bumper face, the protector will adhere well to the applique and bumper.

So I had a handheld steamer for cleaning things around the house and gave it a try. The applique came off nicely and took no more than 5 minutes to take off. There was a little residue on the edge that comes over the bumper but it seems I didnt heat it very well. I used a little gasoline to remove it and all is good now. Placed the OEM rubber bumper protector and couldnt be happier!
