Any ideas anyone? I need to find a way to limit the rear hatch opening ... or find a taller wife : )

welcome to priuschat! some have installed bungees to keep it from opening all the way. some have attached grab straps to the inner surface where the grab handles are and some have installed shorter pistons which are available on line. all the best!(y)

Install a strap or rope to the grab handle, easy and cheap.

Find a plastic hook of some kind to use as an arm extender. It can hook onto the tailgate latch or the inside handle, just pull down.

Of course the easiest and simplest answer is to have your wifes arms surgically lengthened through bone and skin grafts. Perhaps using the arm bones of a cadaver and/or a gorilla.

A quick online search should find you a surgeon in South America willing to attempt the procedure.

    Best of luck.

Hatchback hitting garage door solution! | PriusChat

Not suggested yet. Put a small stool or sturdy box in the back of the Prius for your wife to stand on. :D

You can also replace the hydraulic lifters with shorter ones.

You could "dump" your car on coilovers. (y)

Sweet ride, but I can't help wondering what it's like to drive every day over some of our roads. :)

Thanks everyone ... after reading ideas, I looked to see if there was anthing to attach a bungee cord to - none on my 2014 Prius ... no handles ... just grab indentations. Decided to replace hydraulic lifters ... any ideas on size and where to buy???

There's part numbers and such in the thread linked to in post #6 in this thread.

I'd just go for a taller wife, save worrying about part numbers, will it fit etc? If you're going taller, you're probably best going younger too

    Good luck

There is a simpler solution...tie a small(ish) piece of rope to the hatch where the piston is. Then tie it off at the base of the piston the desired open height. I noticed that the previous owner did that to mine when I was surprised that it didn't hit my garage door when I opened the hatch.

I know this is an old thread but there is a no-cost way to fix this problem.

In the spare tire compartment is the handle that’s used to lift the jack that comes with the car... it’s an l shaped piece of metal with a hook at the end..... take this out and put it under the mat in the trunk.

When it’s time to close the hatch, grab this tool and hook on to the latch u-bolt in the middle of hatch... the same u-bolt that is used to hold the hatch in place when closed to the locking mechanism. Pull down on the hatch using the tool until the hatch reaches eye level, then slide the tool off, slide it under the mat for next time, and then finish the closing of the hatch.
