I just picked up my new '07 about a month ago and have a quick question on maintaining charge.

Is is normal for the Volt gauge to drop dramatically when I'm backing up? As if it is discharging the batteries.

I know it's got a new car smell, but I'm also smelling something like a tiny electrical burn when in reverse. I'm taking it back to the dealer this a.m. for them to check it out. Hopefully it's nothing abnormal.

    Thanks, Matt

oh, I love this site, soooo much good information and it looks like the folks are friendly!! :) :) :)

I'd like to add that this little bugger has some "surprise" capability when leaving stop lights. I have had several cars figure I'm a sitting duck and got the surprise of thier life! I even, as they call it, holeshotted a Dodge Viper and the fellow couldn't get around me- LOL

I'll do a bit more research, but is there any performance goodies I could add to this baby to really make her POP???

Yes, you're using around 20-40 amps when backing up and can often see a little drop in the SOC...add to that that you often back up when the car is cold and there's some adjustment of the SOC on the screen as the computers determine the actual battery voltage.
