    Hi there,
Im new here, and have a couple questions for anyone that might be able to help.

i have had a 2011 prius for a few years now, it had the factory navigation, back up cameras and all that stuff in it. a few weeks ago, a drunk driver hit me and totaled my car. my insurance paid me to get another car, and i found a 2013 prius, but its only a 2 package. no navigation or anything. heres where it gets complicated...

I noticed the upper display where it says "settings" next to the spedometer and fuel and all, theres no gauges like i used to have... the fuel consumption by trip or by 5 min, the prius animation, and the gauge that told me where i was with charge/electric/hybrid/power is not showing. just a diagram on the screen where the navigation usually is.

I'm planning on putting in an aftermarket audio/navigation unit, but i was wondering if there is a way to get those indicators on the upper display back? anyone have this issue? i tried getting into the settings, but i couldn't figure out how to get through it.

    can anyone help?

    thanks!

First: That "multi" display should be present, "2" version or not. If it's not there, two things off the top of my head that could be simple:
    1. Check the light dimmer. When it's all the way down things tend to disappear. That's the small rotary wheel on the dash to the left and down of the steering wheel.
    2. Check that there's no piece of paper or something down in the small well in front of the display. I remember that the speedometer and such are lit up by a projector down in there; not sure about the multi display, but it's worth a drag back and forth with your fingers.
If neither of the above are true, it's busted. That does happen. Previous owner/dealer may not want to fix it, it's a couple of hundred bucks to do so. Assuming that it's not something more serious, which is why the car might be on sale. Accident, maybe, and the body shop didn't know how to reconnect the wires?

When you set it to off, does settings show when you press display? If so you just go into settings and turn the display on again, right?

the prius animation should be in the upper display, as well as the lower one if you press the 'car' button.

thanks for the replys... the car was a rental from Hertz. I'm not sure if they disabled the multi display or what. all it does is cycles from "settings" to a blank screen. i go into the settings and try to set the "eco" symbol to on but still does nothing. might it be something that needs to be unlocked by toyota?? Hertz doesn't seem to know.

Ah. The displays have been disabled. Find the manual for the car. You can download it from Toyota. In the middle of the manual somewhere there's a detailed description of the "multi-informational display". One of the options on the Settings menu is to turn off all the other ones. I'm guessing that Hertz did this to keep from distracting the drivers renting the car. Or that one of the drivers was feeling in a snarky mood and did it. Nothing wrong with the display, but best re-enable it so you can verify same.

All right. Fun. Got my 2010 manual at my elbow. Make sure the car is stopped, power on.
    1. Get the Settings screen visible by hitting the "DISP" Button until the "SETTINGS" screen is visible.
    2. Press and hold the "DISP" button for a bit. After a second or so, you should get a list of settings:
      • STEERING SWITCH
      • CLOCK
      • LANGUAGE
      • SCREEN OFF
      • EXIT
    3. Let go the "DISP" button, then tap it a few times until the "SCREEN OFF" entry is highlighted.
    4. Press and hold the "DISP" button again. After a second or so, you'll get a display with two entries:
      • ON
      • OFF
    5. Tap the "DISP" button until "ON" is highlighted.
    6. Press and hold the "DISP" button until the first menu reappears.
    7. Tap the "DISP" button until "EXIT" is highlighted; then, hold down the "DISP" button until the window changes back to "SETTINGS".
At that point you should be able to cycle through the various displays by tapping the DISP button, as per normal.

If that doesn't work.. Well, there are some customizable functions that the dealer can play with. The back of my 2010 manual lists them all, but turning off the multi-informational display, independent of the procedure outlined above, isn't mentioned. I think you have something other than a 2010, so you'll have to check the back of your manual to see if a function like that is in there. If it is, then the dealer should be able to turn your display back on, likely at no charge.
