I have my new Prius Plug in for about a month now and whenever I fully charged the vehicle it shows just over 21 KM available on EV. The past 2 charges over the last 2 days have only shown a range of 16.1 km on EV. Temperatures over the past 2 days have dropped below 10 Degrees Celsius.
I just wanted to know whether this is normal and wanted to see whether anyone has experienced something similar?

Welcome to the forums. Completely normal with the drop in temps. Nothing to worry about.

    Season change is quite normal.

EV dropped to 9 km for me last winter, when the temp plummeted to -19°C.

It climbed back up 25 km during the ideal days of summer this year.

That's a bit frosty but I'd like to hear from a Prius Plugin owner who lives in International Falls, MN.... :)

Actually, I missed a conversion. That 9 km was really miles. I meant 14 km. There's video of it too...

Scary thing is, it got down to -23°C last winter.

Presumably out of politeness because the OP did... Saves the person who is being replied to having to make the conversions for him/herself. It's the same reason I normally quote my petrol price as $2 when replying to most people on this board rather than £1.30 (though the way the $ is dropping....).

On the other hand, I still refer to petrol rather than gas, so I can't say I'm being consistent!

    $2?!!!

Quoting liters (or should I say litres) likely isn't consistent with a dollar-based OP either.

I think you mean $7.50 a gallon (US, not imperial).... :)

    Hello Everyone,
I am chiming in because I just purchased our second 2013 plug in in four months and have noticed a difference in the amount of EV miles. The first one shows 16.7 miles after complete charge and second shows 12.3 miles after a complete charge. Anyone know why. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

range estimate is based on past driving results. so, unless they are driven exactly the same, and have the same amount of ev miles, they are going to be different. they have about the same amount of charge. try driving them together and compare when they run out of juice. congrats on the two pips!(y)

Ok, thank you. This new one has only 500 miles on it. So maybe it will change as I drive and charge it. This is the 4th time it has been charged. I will monitor. Thanks again,

yes, they come from the factory with 12 or 13.something and change as history develops. of course, with cooler weather, they'll probably both decline for awhile.

scariest thing i see is people driving 60 mph on a road that has traffic controls on it. no wonder we get side collisions. on average, how many people skid thru an intersection into another car every winter?

First year - and more specifically first winter with my PiP so I accepted this "range est based on driving results" because as it became warmer from spring to summer I went from 12 mile to 17 mile estimates.
Now I'm thinking this is off by 10% and there's another factor involved

My read has been 11.1-11.3 lately with temps dropping a bit below freezing but it just hit me that I've never ever had an actual that low. I monitor this constantly and at least 3-4 times a week do a 12.2 mile roundtrip drive to a train station.
At worst I've gotten back home with 2/10 left so gotten 12.4 miles - and that's a pretty hilly return trip, I've been over 13 miles on other drives even in this colder weather.
No biggie, just wondering what else could be involved in that computer !
