Does anyone know what Toyota uses for its adhesive primer for ultrasonic parking sensors? I'm betting it's a 3M product, but it is 94, 111, 4298, 6396, or something else entirely? Every time I try and search, I get overwhelmed with links to vinyl wrap resources, and I don't know if they're the same thing or different products.

One of my rear sensors got bumped in; probably by a knee during the prep for the ceramic coating. Since my Toyota dealership needed to take the rear bumper off to install the performance damper, I asked them to pop the sensor back into place. Well, they did that about as well as everything else that day. Apparently he just slapped a piece of Gorilla Tape over the sensor on the back side. From that, I have to assume the sensor wasn't just dislodged from the retainer, but either the sensor is damaged(unlikely) or the retainer got pulled off the bumper(more likely). I don't trust the dealership anymore, so I'm planning on doing the fix myself(I'd have to pay for it either way).

The installation instructions on Techinfo say the adhesion site on the bumper needs to be prepped with primer, but I can't find any info on exactly what that primer is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

To get good adhesion to plastic type materials, I use a 3M product Adhesion Promoter 4298UV. Google this product to see if it would work for your application.

I found a reference to 94 in a random TSB, so I ordered a single use tube for $7. It seems like it's almost the same as 4298 except without the UV dye(that I don't need). I'm not going to be doing this work for weeks, so I'm still interested in feedback.

I'm also trying to decide if I should go ahead and order the retainer(~$20) or wait until I pull the bumper off to see exactly what I need. I'll probably order it to have it ready because the $20 spent will be well worth the time spent trying to carefully remove the adhesive tape from the old retainer without damaging it in order to reuse it.

For $20, it's probably worth just getting the replacement retainer because you know the old one will probably not be the way you want after everything it's been through.
