I tried using my second set of keys this morning and it appears that the battery is dead or nearly dead.
I was able to open the door with the key, but when the car asked me to place the key on the power button it didn't work. Any ideas?
BTW - I wasn't stuck as I was home and able to take the other key.
Also when I took the FOB case with me the car did go into ready mode so it appears that the battery is not completely dead.
Shouldn't the car operate with only the (metal) key?
    Thank You

The fob has to be placed on the start button, not the key.

It sounds like you held the metal key up to the power button the first time. The RFID chip is in the fob case, so it is the fob that should be held next to the power button.

That's why it worked later when you had the fob with you.
