I am looking at purchasing a 2015 Prius Four. I’m confused about what generation this vehicle is. My understanding is that the Prius 4 are years 2016-2022. Can the 2015 also be generation 4?

2015 in the US will be a 3rd generation.

The “Four” in this case is the trim level. Toyota went with numbers for trim levels for the Gen 3 and Gen 4 cars. The 2010-2011 used Roman numerals (I to V). Then when the Prius v was launched, they switched to words as a Prius v V could be confusing. So for 2012-2015, the Prius was labelled Prius Two, Three, Four and Five.

A Prius Four is the second highest tier and had an optional package for a solar roof with HDD navigation (base Four had a different Display Audio with navigation)

One nice distinction of 2015 model year Prius: it for sure will have the revised piston rings, that have more outward springiness, hopefully reduced the propensity to oil consumption. The revision happened partway through model year 2014.

What's the miles on your prospective 2015 purchase?

Just to ensure the model year, run the VIN through a decoder, say vindecoderz.

That sounds like a fair price. Unless the car is from the northeast (salt and rust) area, or if it's been crashed and rebuilt.

I agree, that is good price. I purchased a 2016 a few years ago with higher mileage and was closer to $16k. The used car market, although still a bit high, is coming down too.
