Is it just me or does anyone else have a problem with the QI charger cutting out after a minute or so? I use QI charger at work and my phone works fine with it (Nexus 4), and when I put it in the car there is a little whirr sound and the orange light comes on and all is good. However after a minute or so the orange light starts flashing and the charging has stopped - even though the phone is definitely not fully charged (can have hardly any battery left). I had a "bumper" case on the phone and took that off just in case it was raising the phone slightly, but it doesn't seem to have made a lot of difference.

Just wondered if others were working flawlessly and it's just me!?

try positioning the phone slightly further forward or backward on the charger.

Yeah - tried every combination of position so far to no avail. I did read somewhere that sometimes these chargers can be TOO strong and you need to put something down to separate the phone just a millimetre or two, so will try that next.

Could be that Colin. I purchased a cheap induction coil and a thick plastic cover for my Nokia 530 for less than Β£5 off Ebay, just to see if it works really, and it charges fine in mine. Only problem is the coil doesn't have a pass through connection to the phone so with it in the phone I can only charge wirelessly and most of my charging is at home or work on computer usb ports, so I had to take it out. I'll probably stick it back in if I go on a run to the coast.

I had the same problem, I was attempting to charge with my case on. I now remove my case for charging and everything works fine.

I have a feeling mine had more to do with the size of the phone with the case on than the thickness of the case. With the case on the phone was just SLIGHTLY too large for the tray and I think that created enough of a gap that there were issues. I always found it odd that it would work perfectly fine for the first minute or so before cutting out...

I'm seeing the same thing, and I have a Nexus 6 which has built in wireless charging. My case holds the phone a little too far away for a reliable charge. I am using my phone on the windshield since I need Waze which doesn't give audible warning for speed cameras, which Chicago has plenty of. The coils in my phone are very position dependent and too much height offset doesn't help either. Worked pretty good sans case, but I'm not going to remove the case every time I get in the car.

Mine's been working great since I took delivery two weeks ago. I'm using a Note 5 with case and my commute is 30 miles each way. Only thing I've noticed is phone is pretty warm, more so than when using the Qi I have at home. J

My S6 with its super thin ringke case charges nicely, but with the much thicker case it just doesn't work.

I have a 2017 Prius III with the built in wireless QI charger. i have a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8+ i have wireless chargers that i use at home and at my office. all my wireless chargers at my office and my home work just fine with the S8+. The charger at my house is a non samsung generic fast charger the one at my work is a samsung quick charging pad. the wireless charger in the prius will heat the phone up in about 10-15 minutes then the phone will report "too hot, charging disabled" so i have to turn the charging pad off at that point. I was in a toyota dealership after getting my first 5000 mile check up. I told them about the wireless charger, the girl responded "Oh, that's normal" um no its not normal. The wireless charging pad is useless in the car. the power ports are in a place where i'd have to plug in a usb cable but the way the center console is molded, i wont because it will put pressure on the data port on the bottom of the phone unless i place the phone on the seat which is stupid in my opinion. if you put the phone on top of the cup holders it will slide around a lot and that could scratch either the phone or the console. i dont like that option either. the "Oh that is normal" that irritated me to no end. it's under warranty, toyota needs to fix the problem. i may have to contact toyota corporate directly and see what they say.

Toyota receptionist irritating you ?..........Oh that's normal......
When the phone turns charging off, doesn't it resume after a while, when it's cooled down ?

Is the S8+ not too big for the tray? I read on here that someone S7+ was. My Nexus 6 with its curved back had to be steadied from rocking and got hot, but continued charging. Prius you need to turn off the WiFi and most app's while it's charging on the tray. But you got the stock ignorant answer to anything when they have no idea how to fix something.

I just bought a new 2017 prius and I have a galaxy note 8. If I remove the phone from the case (otterbox defender) it fits perfectly on the charger and I have not had any problem with it getting hot or stopping.

I wish the molding on the console was not quite as rounded or maybe just an inch longer then I could leave the phone in the case and it would fit fine. With note 8 being just a little bit taller than the s8+ I would have thought that Toyota would have at least prepared for this a little bit better.

With the greatest respect, could you have researched the feature with regard to your phone before buying the car? Sorry if that sounds sarcastic, but you yourself are partly responsible for the problem and yet, we do commiserate with you. There is much that could be improved upon in the Gen 4.

It's not you. I have a 2016 and an iPhone with a charge case. I even machined my case back thinner. It didn't help. It works for a while if I position my phone perfectly. My phone charges just fine on my home qi pad.

It's possible that the phone shifts while driving which could account for the OP's situation. My iPhone in an Apple leather case works just fine (more anecdotal evidence).

My Samsung Galaxy S8+ charges properly only if I remove my OtterBox Commuter Series case (not going to happen). The case is just a bit too long to sit flat on my 2019 Prius Qi charger, so when the car is moving the phone shifts around slightly. Result: blinking orange light.

I'm sure that the shorter Galaxy S8 and S9 would work fine. The S8+ and S9+ phones are just too tall.

The only real option is fast charging with a USB-C cable plugged into the Power Outlet under its cover at the rear of the console.

My 2019 Prime's Qi charging pad is too small (or my Galaxy S10 is too large) and it blinks after a few seconds I have an otterbox on the thing, too. Does anyone know of a way to raise the pad about 1/4" (6mm)? that would lift the phone out of the tray enough for it to lay flat on the pad.

Jacking up the car by ΒΌ" might be the only solution.
