Hello, I purchase a smartkey key fob with silver logo on back. The place I purchase it from said it was new & never program. When I received it I try to program it but can't get the door locks to function & the smart key options don't work, it only works when I insert it on the dash only. I read that when it is a used smart key it wouldn't be able to get the smart key options since its been program to another vehical so thats why I purchase a new one.
Could it be that he sold me one thats been program before or is it something that the dealer has to do? but I think that I read somewhere that other have purchase new smartkey & have been able to get it fully functional. Anyone has any idea whats wrong?

You cannot program a smart key yourself.

How did you try to program it? You have to take it to a dealer if you want the smart functions to work.

I read the instructions they have on the forum http://priuschat.com/forums/knowled...lly-how-program-non-sks-key-fob-detailed.html on programing the key fob, the one that you have to put the key in & out, close & open the doors a couple time while patting your head & rubbing your stomach at the same time :D lol.

Is the unlock & lock functions part of the smart functions Because I can't get that function to work if I try to program it but I seen that others have got it to work on a new non smark key but can't get it to work on a used one. If my key that I try to program for the locks is not programing does it means that they sold me a used one because wouldnt it have program the lock & unlock if its not part of the smart key functions?

The programming technique you tried allows you to program your new SKS fob as a dumb fob. In this mode it will allow the car to start when inserted into the dash slot. If you want anything more than that, you need to take it to your dealer and pay them to configure your Prius for a new SKS fob.

OK, today I took the key fob to get program at the dealer, they program the key & it works fine now. The program cost me a total of $115 + I had a coupon they mailed me & I got a $30 visa giftcard. The new key fob cost me $139 with shipping incl. Thanks to all who responded, I thought the instructions that were posted was going to work but I guess I was wrong, I was getting ready to ship the key back to the guy thinking that he sold me a used key fob instead of a new one because I couldn't get it to program.

John, where did you get your new Smartkey? My dealer wants $250+ and another big charge to program--total was $312.
