Asking for friend, I’m good in electronics, not so much in anything else. Your thoughts or maybe experience, second coolant expansion tank to be on the safe side?

You can do this to buy you some time once you see the first or hear the first rattle and what have you I don't know that I would want to run around with a degas bottle. Not doing his job in this critical application It's meant to have pressure on it The cooling and contraction in the expansion of the coolant should not be enough to spread the block apart that's just some kind of foolishness as long as there's room for expansion and contraction should not be an issue which there is but yes and a pinch you could do this I don't know how long I would leave it like this because the next thing you're doing is a head gasket or an engine replacement and then when you have the new engine in place and all that you want it to run as expected and that is with some expected pressure in the coolant system it's engineered for that I don't think you can just readily turn it into a non-pressurized system without doing some changes like they do the big trucks there's some special nasty smelling coolant that you can run that is zero pressure antifreeze and so on You really need to bone up on that before you take the plunge You're cooling system is designed to have a certain amount of pressure to keep everything working properly in that system. You want to make darn certain you don't create an overheat condition

Yes that's the stuff Evans horrible smell guys over on old celica club and early tot mods list folk used some of this stuff in their vehicle with no thermostat no restrictor plate nothing seemed to work okay I guess nobody was really overheating I'm not sure what the big deal was other than there wasn't 12 lb in the cooling system. I've never had that much trouble with my cooling systems throughout ice and ownership so I've always pretty much left it alone try to keep stress off of it as best I can no head gasket leaks things like that and it's always seem to work well so. But in this Prius model I have seen and have taken out the pressure creating seal in that bottle and that does work to help with the rattle but once you've already heard it once things are starting to happen this may buy you a little time very little at that when I got to this point with the generation 3 I was already in the middle of rounding up two or three generation twos because I had pretty good mind that they would go the distance like most of the good stuff this company's made and of course they have. Now I just read about people working themselves have to death on generation 3s just because it's a labor of love or they've pile too much money in one place and that got to keep going or something I don't know.

I see, my friend has Prius gen 3 and Prius V , both approaching 100kmi, no sight of blown head gaskets just yet. He did “million dollar” repairs not long ago, new intake manifolds, egr coolers and new egr’s plus egr software upgrade. Evans good idea but hard to recommend since I’m not 100% sure about gaskets and seals compatibility with Toyota’s. It can develop coolant leak somewhere or maybe even water pump failure., who knows…
