Isn't the Gen III Prius already has projector headlights? The cut off may not be as sharp as some but it's close enough. All you gotta do is replace the halogen with HID.

    That's what I did. I'm very happy.

Get 55 watt and you won't have to bother with relays or canbus ballasts. If you want bright visible light don't go over 4700k the bluer the light (higher the kelvins) the less lumens. ;)

I have seen the HID installed in Gen3 halogen projector housing at night. Too much light escapes from the squirrel finder as it was intended for halogen. I wasn't directly in front so I couldn't tell if it produces glare or not.

The TSX projectors are not much better than the Morimoto H1 Minis. If you were going to go through all of the effort in retrofitting I would go with the FX-R projectors, Osram 66240 bulbs and a cheap DDM ballast. It's much cheaper and much brighter with better beam output than the TSX projectors.

Since I have never taken apart a GenIII headlight I don't know how easy the install would be but your light output would be stupid bright compared to the OEM setup and even better than the OEM LED headlights!

Exactly! Or you can buy the projectors alone and put your own less expensive HID kit in them.

Bi-xenon: FX-R 1.1 - HID Projectors from The Retrofit Source Inc

I had a shroud pop off my projectors the other day which means I have to take the headlight completely apart again so I may just man up and try to install the FX-R instead. I already have a set but I need to return them for the newer version.

Not until I figure out what to do with your damn motorcycle headlight. LOL

I'm skurd the Matchbox minis will just be to low in light to be worth the money.

At this point, might as well give it a shot. Do you think it'd be any worse than halogen reflector? I'd be surprised if it was. Remember, I can always swap things around. Did those pics of the LED lighting look OK? It was hard to get anything good with my camera since I don't own a tri-pod for it.

Is the light cut-off shield exposed so you could block the squirrel finder slot if you took the projectors out of the headlight for access?

Sorry, I have never seen the inside the Gen3 halogen projector. I would think you should be able to block it.

TSX-R projectors are superior to the FX-R setup. Wider beam, better cuttoff and more even output. Only advantage the FX-R has is its bi-xenon.

I've seen more arguments stating the FX-R was second only to the TL projectors and are much easier to retrofit. If you do not need a bi-xenon (GenIII only, GenII requires bi-xenon) projector then why not go with an S2000 projector? It really doesn't get any better than that.

s2000 projectors are way overpriced for what they are. Having worked with all 3, the best bang for the buck would be (imo) the tsxr. sharp colorful cutoff, wide dispersion, and even light distrubution. s2000 is also very nice but theyre also huge projectors. tsx is like the baby bro haha. I've also heard good things about the rx projectors.

Any way you go however, you'll have a much better lighting solution than the stock halogen lenses and hids.

Very good points! I agree, any of those are better than the OEM unit on the Prius.

Have you heard of anyone retrofitting another projector into the GENiii?

No I haven't heard of anyone doing it for a gen3 yet. The only thing I know of is someone putting the LED lights from the V onto their IV. Something I also considered doing as an alternative to a retro. My other idea was to do a s2k projector swap into where the halogen projector is now and then use a morimoto mini bi-xenon in the high beam producing a quad projector setup with 4 for lows while retaining the high beam function for flashing or extended driving. I also have HID fogs so I was considering a retro there but I don't know how much more money I'm going to invest into my Prius since its only my daily driver haha.

Sorry we couldn't help you. If you find ny info please report back. I'd love to see this as an option for Geniii folks.

Yeah for now, I decided to spend the money on new tires for this car and put additional money towards my new project BMW.

However, if I decide to revisit this mod at a later date, I will update this thread.
