    Hey all,
After patting myself for having cleaned the MAF sensor (for maintenance and not any error code), I was expecting any issues to come about from what I had worked on; instead, the left side of the dash isn’t being displayed - speedometer, fuel, etc.

When I initially drove off for a test run after the maintenance work, everything was functioning on the dash, including the initial displays of the trouble icons on the left and right side of the display. After topping off my gas tank, I noticed the display clusters on the left were not being displayed; the “ready” remain lit and the typical stuff on the right displays normally.

Not sure if the 3rd gen prius owners are aware (that i found out accidentally) the displays on the left including the speedometer is projected on to the display dash via some sort of projection beaming from the bottom portion of the dash; I know this because I freaked when I was not able to see the left portion the the display instrument cluster but i soon figured out that if you place an object just below where the speedometer is, it will disappear and reappear once the object is no longer “blocking” the projection; it is these instruments that is no longer being displayed.

Just wanted to see if there’s a simple solution (fuse?) or is this a case of having to replace that electronic component. BTW, that left area where i see no speedometer and such still displays the circular button that’s on our steering wheel for volume up/down, and toggle for displaying odometer, tripmeter etc. Also, I must confess that several months ago, I manage to spill coffee in that very area and maybe it’s finally caught up?

What do you think the problem is and how much will it cost?

    Thanks!!

It's called a mirror That's all it is the display is backwards and transferred onto a mirror and you see it correctly generation 2 is the same way so you have some sort of CM monitor display problem which is what happens in generation 2 I don't know what they call it in the three.

Update: I’ve tried a myriad of solutions like having the door ajar and pressing the on button, turning on and off the headlights several times etc but to no avail and most if not all are for the gen 2; is this no longer an issue with the gen 3s? i thought i came across an article telling otherwise; why can’t i find someone who has/had the same issue on the gen 3s?

All right tell me this when you open your door on your display do you see the red light that indicates the door is open or the hatch is open? If you do want to generation 2 have that little universal symbol lit up in red then when you push the power button your display is going to light up and you're going to have speedometer gas gauge and gear selection I can almost guarantee it I don't know about this in a generation 3 even though I own two of them I've never heard of the display glitch in this particular model irs both work without question with a whole lot of options and button pushing on the steering wheel you can look at all kinds of nonsense I never look at any of it it's just there now on your car apparently it's not. So if it's anything like the generation 2 if you open the door now with no display working or at least the speedometer in that portion of it when you open the door you're not going to know by looking at the dash the door's open?
