Well, this past Saturday was my birthday, and for my birthday my partner got me the XM integrated kit from Priusxm.com. Sunday was the day to install, and it went great.

We watched the dvd the night before (personally, I wouldn't want to do it without the dvd if I were doing it myself) - then took the laptop out to the car to watch it while doing the dissection. I don't change my own oil, I don't install my own subwoofers - but since this car is my baby, I thought I'd take a stance, and not let anyone else touch it for this mod. :) (oh, and plus we didn't have $100+ to dump into a shop that would install it for us).

The dvd greatly details everything you need to do. My partner had no problems getting the vents off, which was good since there is word of a tough time taking some of them off. The only problem we encountered was finding out that each connecter - be it to the parking button, the radio, just about everything, has a tab that you need to depress to release the connector. Once we figured this out, it was smooth sailing...until the MFD!

I was resting the MFD on the top of the dash, tilted up while my partner plugged the connections back in. It slipped, and two plastic pieces fell off and into the dash. Fortunately they were both found quickly and replaced (they're white tabs that just attach to the top of the MFD, which holds the top in). So, it was a bit of a scare, but we were fine.

Otherwise, install was easy. Putting the dash back together took no more than 5 minutes, literally. I love the fact that the car has so many 'pop-off' panels and wiring and connections - very futuristic.

So, I'll include a picture of the dash disassembeled (again, only took minutes to restore it from this point!) and of the antenna on the back roof - couldn't look better on my black baby! Thanks a bunch Jon, loved the kit and will suggest it to everyone I know who has a Prius...which is everyone on here. :)

Boy, that dash disassembly reminds me of my EV trek. Glad to know that the XM was about as easy - in relative terms. I may go for it eventually - but finances won't allow for now.

What's the blue and yellow sticker just above the Prius name?

I installed this weekend, too. My only problem was that one of the bolts connecting the radio frame was already stripped before I even touched it. I would just spin it around counterclockwise without anything happening. I would try yanking and spinning and nothing would budge. This stalled me for close to an hour. I was ready to drill it out, when I tried putting the socket and socket extension in the power drill for some high-speed spinning--I had nothing to lose at this point. do not know why, but it worked!

Regarding tearing the dashboard apart, it looks really ugly but it's actually quite simple. Snap-apart car: Ingenious.

Incidently, did anyone else try putting the antenna wire under the rear hatch rubber gasket, rather than over it?

It's a HRC sticker - ala, Human Rights Campaign. An equal sign to stand for equality of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender. Their website is http://www.hrc.org

Count me in as another happy customer, as well! We did the install yesterday, after having watched the video a couple of times. The install took two of us around two hours, and went amazingly smoothly. We took a laptop out to the car so that we could have the video ready when we needed it. It turned out that the written instructions were adequate for most of it, although the video was especially useful for reminding us where to position the different pieces.

Here are some tips for anyone planning to do the install themselves:

    - A socket wrench with a 6" extender would have worked better for getting at the radio frame bolts than a 3" extender. Having small fingers also helped for getting those bolts out.

    - It really does help to have a second person for the bits where you use the fish tape.

    - Small fingers/hands also come in handy for sneaking the tuner cable around the back seat, and into the trunk area.

    - Someone had posted a suggestion to use a plastic pot scraper for removing the vent covers. This helped us a lot.

    - The tab on the parking button connector is towards the front end of the car, not the front end of the connector. It took us a couple of minutes to figure out which part had the tab.

    - We had more trouble getting the carpet rivet in the back out, than we had with the vent covers. Go figure.

The video, in addition with the written instructions, is what made this install happen for us. Many kudos to Jon for providing such clear and straightforward instruction to make the installation simple! In my opinion, the video is a huge component of this kit -- well worth it!

And if you're curious, it was way easier than assembling Ikea furniture!

By the way, rflagg -- Awesome cause and awesome sticker![/b]

Well the PriusXM came a day early. Got started installing the unit. Watched the video just to be sure how to take the dash apart. I routed the unit cable a little different so as to keep it out of the way with out using any ties...

Now I completely did the sat. ant. different. I have a Dephli car unit and used the ant. from this package. I then took the trim off the sides and dropped down the head liner. I then removed the Prius am/fm ant and routed the XM sat. ant. cable through this hole. I then put on a little extra weather striping on the seal to be sure no water would creep in. Then routed the cable down the right side of the car... being very careful where that cable went so as to not get in the way of the side air bags.

I then followed the rest of the video and put the base unit just where the video showed.

I now have XM via the Touch Screen.... no more casette interface and all the cables that with the car unit. I will try to get a detailed pic up in the next few days to show the Sat. ant. where I put it and how it looks.

Putting the Sat. Ant where I did is not an easy job... well OK it is just as easy as the rest.. just more time to complete the job.

The video sure makes the job easier. thx.
Later, and thanks for the fast service.

We have 2 kits in stock today if anyone is interested.

Also, I may be in the San Francisco area at the end of June. If there's enough interest, I might be able to adjust my travel plans and do some installs out there. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

As another PriusXM happy customer (yeah I know I've posted this to death already), I do want to comment on one thing I saw noted by RFlagg and a few others... One of the four bolts holding in the MFD in my Prius was also completely stripped once I disassembled the dash and tried to remove it. Since the other three seemed fine, I didn't want to mess with it so I just put the bolt back into the stripped hole, made sure it was secure so it wouldn't fall out or rattle, and reassembled afterwards.

But this does point out a potential manufacturing quality problem. These are machine screws that are different from the other dash screws you see. I'd believe they're way over-torqueing it during assembly.
