Three weeks ago, we gave our 03 Prius to our housekeeper. A week ago, we bought a 2014 BMW i3-REx. The only remaining Prius is our 2010 bought thanks to Toyota USA. So I have: disabled alerts on new posts in the Gen-1 forum turned off alerts from anything other than Gen-3 threads on MPG less frequent monitoring of non-Prius threads It doesn't mean a loss of fondness for the Prius community as much as realization that I am no longer in a position to contribute as many useful facts and data about Prius technology. My engineering interests is the BMW i3-REx because ... I have one. I don't want to be like the new Volt, Leaf, or other former Prius owners who hang around pimping their new rides. If I can't go out to the driveway and confirm someone's assertion, I really don't have business bothering the good folks in PriusChat. So I wish you' all well ... at least those who have bought a Prius. Just I can't in good conscience remain an active part of the community except for our 2010 Prius. Bob Wilson
Don't go! Pancakes and Politics don't need you to still own a Prius (I hope). And your contributions here are always interesting. I stayed when I got the Merc, because I think it's an interesting community (and everyone on MBWorld is a lunatic, for reasons I won't go into so that this thread doesn't get moved to FHoPol). What's the i3 like?
The car is great! The dealer is no different than Toyota or any other dealer I've ever had to deal with. The 'service rep' is a secretary; the shop techs are underpaid and over worked of mixed skills, and; when you take it back for the work done poorly, you meet the 'real' mechanics. If you want the job done right and on time, do it yourself. Bob Wilson
LOL! We'll miss your contributions, Bob, but I can definitely relate w/your situation. My interests have shifted and due to time, priorities and a job that keeps me pretty busy, I'm not spending much time here. :| Most of my car forum time is on mynissanleaf.com and a few other EV-related forums.
I'm still a baby-fresh newbie, Bob, and I've enjoyed your posts a great deal. Best of luck with your BMW. (Is there a secret "Off Topic" forum here, somewhere? And a politics forum? How does one gain access to those forums?)
Please, keep us updated on what is going on with the i3 at the very least. The most I learned about the Volt came from owners honestly sharing their experience here.
I probably will although I'm starting to find BMW i3-REx forums that are interactive. Just so far, they appear to be somewhat conservative about hackin' their rides ... or I've not yet found where 'the dirty fingers' crowd hangs out. Bob Wilson
Which are you asking? I still have my Gen 2 Prius bought in January 06, although it mostly sits in my garage. It's my range extender and sometimes driven on days when it's very hot out so that I don't unnecessarily heat up the Leaf's battery. My daily driver to/from work and car driven most of the time on weekends is my used '13 Leaf SV w/premium package. It was cheap at $9,325 + tax and license (built 5/2013, had under 24K miles on the clock). Bought it in July 2015 and it's it's past 34K miles now. It has only a few weeks left on the 3 year/36K basic/"bumper to bumper" warranty. It replaced the '13 Leaf SV I leased for 2 years w/both packages beginning near end of July 2013. It went back w/~23K miles on it. Per My Nissan Leaf Forum - Login, I apparently joined MNL in June 2011. I think I had at least 1K posts there before I even had a Leaf. I test drove a Leaf 2x at event in WA state in November 2010, about a month before the first deliveries (to customers) anywhere. The Prius + 2 Leafs have been in my sig for awhile...
But Bob, you ARE a part of this community. You can't just leave. We'll forgive you for having only one Prius. Or even none.
Priuschat has amazing resilience as newbies come to fill the gaps. Best of all, they continue to offer help and advice without much snark. Bob Wilson
