    Hello,
so clearly, not any generic Rim will fit on a Prius who's weels are of the same diameter..... but how bad is it?
And moreover, how compatible are rims between different Prius' (I have a 2007 Prius 2, R16)?

Also for clarity for newbies, it seems that:
Rims = Wheel covers != Hub caps
The Hub caps are what's in the center and on originals, bears the Toyota logo. But many people confuse wheel covers and hub caps. I'm not even sure rims is a proper term.

    (!= not equals)

    Thanks!

As long as it is 5x100 lug pattern it will fit. Lots of 3rd gen wheels on 2nd gens. I think the 2nd gen wheel is the lightest weight, however.

I agree; wheel covers cover the whole wheel, and hub caps cap the central hub only. Technically.

Only thing: over the years, the two words have drifted; and the majority of people use them interchangeably. Which can lead to confusion, but here we are lol.

Specifically, I found some that are compatible with Prius A. The seller tells me that the internal part must not be "outward/exiting" (sortante in French). Not very precise :)
I encourage to keep this discussion general as well, but if you know.. thanks

rims is slang for wheels, but some folks are so stupid they think rims are a separate part of the wheels. hubcaps and wheel covers have been interchanged for a long time; old guys called full size chrome or stainless covers "hubcaps" before i was born... subaru, bmw, almost any toyota alloy sedan wheels, all kinds of wheels have been used by forum members. width and backspacing seem to be the only limit to what fits. 5x100 is a very common size.

Maybe because back a few decades there were covers kinda mid-way in size, between full wheel covers (basically faux alloys) and hub caps (literally just capping the hub). VW Bug for example:

That does look purty, and it’s effective: protects hub and lug nuts from the elements, and maybe aerodynamic before it’s time?

So this does seem to be hunt-buying for such a simple thing, I'm looking at EBay, Oscaro (car parts site), my local dealer and all are unclear on the pattern (100 lug)/shape/compatibility. Crazy.

Where do you guys (I suppose ^^) buy from?

Rims can be a separate part of wheels. Most wheels now are one-piece; the rim is integrated with the spokes. But some wheels are 2- or 3-piece, and the "rim" is the barrel to which the tire seats (2-piece wheels) or the outer ring that locks to the barrel (3-piece).

but you aren't gonna be taking those wheels apart to change the "rims". yeah i know all about wheels with forged centers on spun rims, and multi-piece construction, but they are not meant to be taken apart. a lot of them are riveted anyway.

I have a 3rd gen prius 4, I removed the wheel covers a while ago and have been and driving with black alloys that are behind the covers, my mileage dropped a couple after doing this, so I wanted to put the wheel cover's back, I also happened to see my friend's 4th gen Prius which has a better looking wheel cover Silver/Black and looks more aero dynamic than my prius's silver plastic covers, so I thought why not put the 4th gen wheel covers on my prius, I can find 4 4th gen prius cover's selling for $70 in Ebay, but wanted to confirm if it would fit and if any one here has tried doing this., both the base 4th gen prius LE and my prius have 15 inch wheel with 5 lugs, also curious to know if Prius prime's wheel cover which looks even better would fit, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Your query seems more model-specific than generic, maybe if you posted in a Gen 4 or Gen 3 forum, you will get some reliable advice.

I'm curious to know what (if any) aftermarket wheel covers will fit the stock Gen2 wheels. In other words, can you pop off the trim rings and pop in something else? I'd like to use "full moon" style wheel covers.

They aren't exactly a full moon wheel cover, but I know I saw a thread where a few people had attached aluminum covers to the factory plastic ring on the 15" wheels. I can't post a link since I haven't made enough posts, but if you search for "Speedway 15 inch aluminum wheel covers" you'll find them.
