I have been so used to having a Homelink/Auto Dimming mirror in my previous vehicles that I was not happy about Toyota skimping out on this in the Prius v Three. I read up a bit on the forums here and did the install on my Prius v. Here is a link that has pictures and documentation of the install..Hope it helps anyone who wishes to do this. Enjoy!

Wow, thanks for sharing. I'm VERY tempted to do this myself. (By the way, the caption on picture 6 is screwed up.)

The caption LOOKS just fine. But it's the same words as the caption for page 2, talking about how the mirror is held on with a single spring clip.

Meanwhile, I've gotta go find me one o' them mirrors!

Managerman, thank you for sharing. I will be showing this to hubby to see if he is willing to take on this new project. He really wanted a homelink and dimming rear mirror.

I considered a homelink mirror but felt it was just too expensive and I didn't care about the autodim so I just got a miniature garage door opener about the size of the Prius v remote and used velcro to attach it at the front of the center console where no one can see it but I can reach it easily with my arm resting on the console. It worked out great and cost about $20.

Managerman -- I bought one!! But I don't think it comes with the wiring diagram. Could you describe which wire goes where, or email me a wiring diagram?

    VERY excited about this!

Did you get a Gentex 536? or a different model? In any case this is the wiring diagram I used. Feel free to ask questions if they come up during your install..Good luck!

My Toyota dealer had an open house tonight in which there were techs and sales people available for questions. I asked them how much it would cost to install a rear view mirror with Homelink and auto-dim. Answer: $599. (YOWCH!) They also said they could install just a set of Homelink buttons on the ceiling for $399.

    Uh... thanks but no thanks!

I tested my Gentex 453 tonight at the workbench using a hefty 12v power source. Again, I have 3 wires on the plug: Red, Black, and White with Black stripe. Turns out White with Black stripe is NEGATIVE, and Black is the switched POSITIVE power from the battery. Red is the constant POSITIVE power.

Just wanted to report a 100% successful install of the mirror! I decided to wire the black and red wires to the switched power, so Homelink won't work without the motor being on. Good for security in the driveway.

The only glitch was that the spring from the native mirror wouldn't fit in the collar for the Gentex. Auto parts store didn't have one (of course), but the mirror seems very secure on the windshield even without it.

    Homelink works just great!

Thanks again, Managerman, for your original post!

I found, though, that it's easy enough to test the mirror on the workbench with a 12v DC power supply. If it's wired backwards, nothing happens, and no damage results. If it's wired correctly, you can see the mirror dim under the room light and see the green/red LED flicker when pushing the garage door opener. Again, mine didn't have the compass.

These homelink mirrors have 5,10,and 12 pin plugs. The mirrors all have side dimming mirror control capabilities and sometimes temperature and maplights. The wrong connections to those features will damage the mirror.
