Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon)... Vacuum Switching Valve Fault Killed Engine...

My 2012 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) (~80,000) bucked/almost stalled at the hybrid/gas motor handoff when starting to roll (very low speed). Check Engine light came on. I drove home (60 miles, highway) using the POWER MODE without problem. Next morning, on my way to take car to service, several warning lights came on. I began to travel, and apparently the car was in EV mode only, which drained the batter. Car crapped out on a highway entry ramp. It started up after several tries and I was able to get to the dealership.

Was told diagnosis would cost $127.00. BUT... when service tech called, I was told problem was VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE shorted out the system. AND... THANKFULLY... there was a service bulletin on this issue so the replacement/repair was done under warranty at no cost. Had to send out for part, but was provided a loaner vehicle, so was not inconvenienced. Got car back next day.

Tech said although this is a known fault, it is not frequent enough for a recall; although there is quite a bit of risk should this happen when the car is on the highway, or -- as in my case -- on a blind-curve entrance ramp.
