I just bought a 2015 v 5 with the advanced technology package and the nav did not come with the sd card. I see lots on eBay but which one will work in my car? Are all of the oem Toyota versions compatible. TIA. Erik

We have a 2012 v Five with NAV, but not ATP. Never updated the NAV database, as major roads don't change much in the old East.

So you are saying that with "no SD card" in yours, you have no NAV database?

Yes, with no SD card the nav will not work. I'll look later as there was a message on the screen.

That's interesting, as I believed the NAV database was uploaded via USB.

On our 2016 Prius v Three the map data is on a microSD card according to the manual...

You might check with a local dealer for the correct part number...

I bought the newest update/2017 of the sd card on EBay for $25 and everything works great now.

Makes me wonder whether there is a microsd card slot behind some facia on the 2012 v Five's p/n 57011 head unit.

I have a Prius V Five. A new map card is available but it's terribly expensive to have the dealer install it. My friend has a 2015 Subaru Outback and he just received an email from Subaru inviting him to update his card himself for $69. I figured maybe there's a way I can do something like this myself on my Prius V. First question is about the Micro SD HC Map Card, which is shown on page 259 of the Navigation System Owner's Manual. It warns you against ejecting the SD card. My question is, how do you eject it? I can't see any way to open/eject the card. I assume from what I've read elsewhere that I would eject the current card and put in a new card. I get the feeling that genuine Toyota SD cards are available on Ebay, but that one must have the part number. I'm thinking I can get that from the dealer. As I said, the main question is, how do I open/eject the map card?

Can you push on it and it will pop out? I bought my car without one and bought the latest on version on EBay and it works now even though I never use it. My son likes to see the flags for restaurants though.

The 57011 unit has the maps internally and can only be updated at the dealership. No SD card slot unfortunately.

Toyota switched to Panasonic (I believe) which uses Garmin maps on SD (or microSD as people are noting). I have a '12 with the maps uploaded through USB which requires USB, TechStream subscripion, plus AVN/activation card to install. (Just plain crazy).

http://www.garmin.com/toyota for you lucky guys who have the newer style.

Latest map update on eBay (2018-2109) sells for $149 through a reputable seller. Do you remember which seller you got it from?

Got it. Looks like only 0E185 part number is on fleabay so far, and there's an "A" and "*" version. Hard to tell which one is worth it.

Figuring out what year a navigation update is from has gotten more difficult since Toyota went with the current version numbering system. All I know is that 99.9% of the navigation updates on eBay are misrepresentations of what they really are.

IMO, the only way to guarantee you are getting a current, non-pirated navigation update is by buying it at a Toyota dealership. I've bought the past several navigation updates with a discount coupon from the Costco Auto Program at a participating Toyota dealership. The price of all the updates have been the same regardless of the media: $143.65..

By the time Toyota issues the map media, the data is at least a year old. I very carefully asked my salesslime how the map data was updated and was told it was just a free download.

"Salesslime" - that's a good one! There's no limit to the BS some sales people will spew.

It can take far longer than one year for road changes to appear in navigation system maps regardless of it it is Toyota's or other company's.

As much as I like in-dash navigation for its ability to work where there is little or no cell phone service, I was blown away by how much better the Google Maps phone app worked than one of our Garmins with its traffic receiver and freshly updated maps during eight recent days in the madness of Seattle traffic.

Garmin totally failed over and over to route us correctly while Google Maps always seemed aware of current traffic conditions and rerouted us efficiently. I've read that Waze is even better but I haven't tried it yet. I wonder how well Toyota's new "dynamic navigation" with continuous map updates works but I haven't seen any feedback on it yet.

At least Toyota is finally making Apple CarPlay a standard feature in even the least expensive versions of some 2019 models and has announced that some 2020 models will get Android Auto. I wonder if Toyota will continue to offer its own in-dash navigation systems due to that.
