A Toyota Prius has set an unofficial inner-city fuel economy "record" after a 24 hour non-stop drive through the Brisbane CBD.

The world's first five seat hybrid petrol/electric passenger car used just 24.08 litres of fuel to average 4.3litres/100km.

The Prius covered 560kms at an average speed of 23.3km/h. Lead driver, race and rally star Rick Bates, said the speed was not artificially reduced to improve fuel economy.

That sounds like my daily commute and we get the same consumption.

Thanks for the calculator, Doc. But I get 54.7 mpg US from the calculator. 65.69 is in imperial gallons. And we've got folks right here on PriusChat doing better than 54.7 every day. Don't we?

That and doing it with an average speed of 14.5 mph? Yikes, I think the better statement is "he ONLY got 54.7mpg?"

many many studies show that that many stops at that low a speed does kill your mileage. try it. i think you will find that 35 mph is much closer to the sweet spot for high mileage. i still contend that those numbers under those conditions are very good.

talk to anyone who has been in stop and go freeway congestion and they will tell you that your mileage will suffer

Near the bottom of the article:

I have also bought a grey market import Prius, one that I subsequently turbocharged.

So how do you turbocharge a Prius?

I don't know anything about turbo charging but you can read how he did it here:
