2010 Prius, ac only works at high speed, and 2 times over the years camping in hilly areas it has over heated.. i only discovered this because i started driving for uber. Otherwise i never use ac.. but after checking various things and searching this forum i have discovered both of my radiator fans push not pull. I tried to find a definite answer but saw 2 different ones : 1. Both rad fans pull into engine bay... 2. One pulls one pushes. Anyone know for sure? I was going to attempt to flip blades so they spun the right way but just want to be sure before i attack that project.

Before we get to your radiator fans... All investigations into problems with ventilation and A/C have to first start with replacing the cabin air filter because that one solves more problems than anything else you can do and it only takes 60 seconds...

Both should "pull," as I would interpret that term. They do rotate in opposite directions, with opposite blade pitches. Have they been removed and then put back reversed, or has the wiring been modified?

They both pull, air from the front, through the grille, into the engine compartment.

If you have found them not doing that, you have found the exact place to start your investigation.

Yea they are both going opposite direction... frome engine bay to rad. And i have cabin replaced filter already. I glanced over wiring nothing looked out of place.. my guess is they moved them for better access and put them on backwards upon reassembly. Thank you for the answer, both should be pulling into engine bay.

Still need help so the fans look they are in the right way, and i saw the arrow on the blade on the left, it points counter clockwise, but the blade spins clockwise ( and right one vice versa) can anyone help me figure out what to check next? What could be causing BOTH blades to spin the opposite direction?

Just to clarify.. standing in front of the car looking at fans, 7 blades on left, 9 on right.

Ok i wrote the clockwise thing wrong
From the front/top of the car, both spin in -> <- and should be the opposite.. so left is going clockwise but needs to be counter... and right is going counter but needs to be clockwise. What to check next?

    Wiring connections reversed, perhaps?

The wiring diagram will show the shapes of the connectors that plug in to the fans, and which terminal of each should be + relative to the other. Can you get multimeter readings that agree?

Need to buy new multimeter, will do soon, old one lost.. if any of you have a 3rd gen if you could check your fan connections.. the top plug goes to the fan on the left, blue and white on one side, blue and black opposing, blue goes to blue. On bottom plug, green and white wires which plug directly into fan on the right, green wire is top. Same as yours?

Just feel on the engine side of the fans when they're running: if they're blowing air at your hand, they're running as they should.

They are not, have tested with paper strings in front as well, plus have now disassembled the front and have seen the direction arrow on the fan, spinning the wrong way

Kind of what im assuming at this point, im just going to switch them at the connectors if i cant find out where else it would be messed up.. just didnt want to swap wires if problem was elsewhere

If possible then, could you disconnect both fans, swap them left to right, and plug them in again? Mark them first too, before hand.

    Maybe...

There are various ways to save the $20 it might cost to look in the wiring diagram on techinfo, but some of them assume you value your time at $0.
