Prius Prime tire question - can't get a straight answer

We had a blow out on our 2018 Prime. Husband took it to a tire dealership who said the car was supposed to have Michelin Energery Saver A/S tires from the factory. Husband had the tire replaced with their recommended tire (to the tune of +$200 for one tire).

I'm now trying to replace all of the tires since they need it anyway and I was looking at replacing with the new Michelin. I'm on DiscountTire.com web site and when I put in the Michelin tire I get an error that says "This product doesn't fit your car."

I've googled several sites and can't get a straight answer on whether the tire works on the Prime or not.

    Thanks for any help.

Do you know the current size on the car? It would help me search. Which model Michelin are you looking for?

    you're going about it backwards.

start with your model, and let the sites pick out available tires. try tire rack as well.

also, for your own edification, it is helpful to jot down the model number from the side of the tire on the car

Doing some digging I may not need the size of the tire. Surprisingly Tire rack lists only one OE size for all three different Prime models, so I hope I'm right in searching 195/65R15...

    Tire Rack shows OE as:

Dunlop Enasave or Bridgestone Ecopia. Maybe the store sold you tire they conveniently had in stock.

Any Michelin tires (or any other make and model of tires for that matter) that is 195/65R-15 will fit your Prius PRIME. No, you do not have to have Michelin Energery Saver A/S on your Prius Prime, but if you are replacing only one tire, it maybe a good idea to keep the tire brand and make the same as others. But if the tires on your car is 2+ years old and tread is down by more than 4/32, then you may be safer to change at least a pair of tires to keep the tread depth equal on the both sides. That maybe even cheaper than getting a single Michelin Energery Saver A/S tire, if you go with a less expensive model of tire.

"tire dealership who said the car was supposed to have Michelin Energery Saver A/S tires from the factory."
FALSE. The cars came with Toyos or (Bridgestones???).

As noted above, you can put on any tires that fit. I chose the Bridgestone run-flat tires that can go 50 miles without air. That's my choice. Others chose the long tread life Michelin Defender. Others have made other choices that suit their driving needs.

What do you want most out of tires...low rolling resistance to save a bit of gas? Longest tread life? Best winter traction? Quiet & comfy ride? You can't get everything in one tire, so pick what is most important to you. There is no "best" answer for everyone.

I would never replace one tire.
    I would buy all four.
At least two tires, should have the same amount tread on front or rear.

Our P.Prime came with Bridgestone Ecopia Plus 422s. We’ve also had them (the US version) on our Gen-2, 2009 Prius as well.

They’ve been really good in terms of fuel economy, and not bad in terms of handling. Traction has been surprisingly good for a low-rolling-resistance tire.

The downside, however, is noise: The tires themselves are very quiet, but on rough roads, they play road texture like a phonograph needle!

I have had fair results from replacing them in pairs, but yeah, replacing just one tire, the car almost always ends up pulling annoyingly to right or left, especially when the mismatch tires are rotated to the front.

Tirerack might only display tires they have in stock. Try going to Michelin website and entering your vehicle. Can pretty much guarantee you'll be offered Energy Saver A/S 195/65R15.

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

I'm not seeing "Energy Saver A/S" when I search michelinman.com for 2018 Prius Prime Premier. It shows the size we are talking about and 6 choices:

    Primacy A/S
    X-Ice Snow
    CrossClimate +
    Defender T + H
    Premier A/S
    X Tour A/S

Is it the same as one of these just named different? I know there are sometimes similar/same tire but different name for Clubs like Sam's Club or Costco...
