I did a search and nothing came up so asking for your wisdom: Is there a way to update the maps in a 2019 Prius Prime? On my last Prius there was an SD card slot, though all my attempts at following the directions to update the maps failed. On this one I don’t see a slot, though it may be well hidden. And even if I found it, I’d need to know where to get the files.

If it’s dealer updateable only, just say the word. It wouldn’t surprise me, and since the GPS maps on my phone are free I’ll just keep using those.

Still kicking myself that I got a 2019 and Apple CarPlay hit only on the 2020 models.

Here is thread showing how to update map data using OEM nav map update SD card. I don't know what is the latest map data SD card available for your model, but last I read, it was still a year or two old. IMHO, it is not worth paying $200 for the card to update the in car nav map system.

Because it's so expensive, I would wait for the 2020 map update before buying. It seems a 2020 Map update 86271-GN8PR-20 release is imminent since it's listed on the attached application chart from Resources – Toyota Wholesale I haven't been able to find it for sale on any of the parts websites yet, but hopefully soon.

Agreed. Was hoping there was a way around that. A few years ago there was a thread on how to create your own SD card. Guess Toyota quashed that.

    $200, sheesh!

Place my order for the 86271GN8PR20 NAV MSD CARD V.20.1 but the dealer is having a hard time fulfilling the order. The story he is getting is Toyota is not releasing the maps at this time. Has anyone had success getting these maps??

I’m very puzzled to see that 86271-0EXXX cards are widely available for $30-$40 each from Ebay and Amazon, but 86271-GN8PR-20 is only available from Toyota parts store for approx. $200?? I’m assuming that I have to get the expensive card for my 2017 Prius Prime Advanced. Not fair!

I think you are correct that you have to have an exact match on the parts number in order to have compatibility with the specific head unit. But I suspect the cheap TOYOTA map SD cards sold on eBay and Amazon are counterfeit or pirated cards. You have to use it at your own risk. My thinking is that due to a small number of Toyota vehicles equipped with the 11.6 screen head units, the pirates have not bothered to make copies. I never bothered to update map data in any of the in-car navigation systems. I just use my Garmin or a phone. Garmin unit that comes with a lifetime free map update cost less than those map data SD cards, and far more usable and up to date.

Yes, don't waste your time and money with any maps coming from a 3rd party. Been there and lost $$ doing it. Just do a Google search for the part 86271GN8PR20 and buy from the cheapest Toyota dealer. I bought my maps from a local dealer, but I had to complain to Toyota headquarters in order for them to fulfill the order. I guess it's because it's such a small number of these 11.5-inch screens? I don't know, but the news maps were worth the price IMO.

I own the 2018 Prime Advanced with the 11.8" display. I've ordered 3 microSD cards so far and none of them worked. No installation began. The 86271-0E073 will definitely not work. The newest card from Toyota seems to be 86271-GN8PR-20 (MAP MSD V.20.1) and has an MSRP of $210. It takes me several attempts to install the card properly but it can be done. I can't find a source for a workable card other than from Toyota and the cards seems to be superceded continually. Owners of the older Prius models are left out in the cold. Let's keep the discussion going!

My dealer had problems getting mine to work. The salesperson tried to insert the card and it would not work. He ended up taking the car to service area and a tech got it working. They said something about making sure the card was inserted all the way.

The ones sold on ebay are probably just copies of the original update cards.

For my 2018 Prius Prime, Toyota Parts say I need a Toyota part number 86271-GN8PR-20 (the very newest may be 86271-GN8PT-21) but this is their Toyota part number. (I am told that new maps are no longer marketed beginning during November of each year; they could be released at other times of the year.) What we see advertised on the Internet is probably a vender number. I have ordered the 86271-0E073 three times and they have never worked. I think the latest map is the 86271-0E074 and can be bought (if it works) for $65 on the Internet verses the Toyota price of $169. I really want to use navigation on my big screen and I can explain how to remove and reinstall the microSD card in its slot, in a place almost impossible to get to?

Your car has a Denso head unit, and that series of cards is for Panasonic head units; see my previous posting.

Is there no 2022 map update yet?
