Prius making a weird noise while off

    I went out to my garage last night and I heard a weird whirring type noise. It was coming from the back of my 2012 Prius, passenger rear. I turned the car on and off and the noise went away.

    Seems like the exact same issue but I was hoping someone can elaborate.

    yep, it's just an evaporations check for pollution controls. not sure where to find details, service manual?

    Ha, that link is to an informative, or at least entertaining thread:D.

    What you heard is an evap system self check the car does at ~5 hours post shutdown. It goes on for several minutes. It's a faint buzz from just behind the rear driver side wheel well, at the charcoal canister. Not sure if it happens after every shutdown, but I'm a garage tinkerer and can confirm I hear it with regularity.

    Ok, I guess I won't worry then. I'm just never heard it before and it was pretty loud. But it was probably just reverberating off the garage door and made it seem louder than it was. Thanks.

    it was a couple years before i heard it. you have to be there at the right time.
