Hybrid Toyota Prius Goes To Yellowstone

Michigan Technology News: DETROIT - Another hybrid is being pressed into service at one of our national parks. First Ford said it would put 12 of its Escape Hybrids into service across the country — and now hybrid pioneer Toyota says it’s donating four Priuses to the Yellowstone Park Foundation for use at Yellowstone National Park.

Valued at $124,000, the vehicles will be used by rangers and park staff and, Toyota hopes, preach the hybrid message to a receptive audience.

Actually, I think racoons are one of the few animals that could get in without SE/SS. (If we're talking about the same Ranger Rick.) Nature's little burglars.

How are four Prii valued at $124K? I'd like to no what extra options they have. Is there a link to a longer article or is that paragraph all there is?

    AH yesssss - racoons....

My wife and I were driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway and pulled in at one of the lodges very late - after all the food was closed down - we didn't worry though, since we had a bag of trail mix in the car.

We got settled in, went down to the outdoor firepit for a Ranger lecture. My wife dropped the trail mix bag under her chair. I was a little bit worried, having camped out a lot as a Geologist, but decided to say nothing. Afterwards we were just about ready to eat out trail mix when a blur passed by, grabbed the trail mix bag and headed off into the night.

We went hungry that night, but my wife learned about wildlife - especially racoons.

I was just in Yellowstone last week and I saw 6 Prius while I was there from all over the country. Were any of them driven by Priuschatters? I didn't see any Hummers in the park. Here in Austin, it seems to be 1 for 1 between the Prius and the Hummers. I also bought a raffle ticket for a blue #7 in Jackson Wy. The proceeds benifitted the Jackson conservation society or some such. I would love to be a two prius family, and the 13 year old would croak.

Have you told him yet that the Prius will be the one he has to learn to drive on and will be the only he get to drive until he buys his own wheels?

His mom hinted as such but I don't believe in bluffing and he won't be getting my car in three years. It will just be broken in good then.

Well, here's what I'm figuring. Tell me if you think this sounds about right... If it's fully loaded, the MSRP is in the very low $26,000s. Taxes, title and licesing would bring it to about $28,000 or so each. Multiply by 4 and you get $112,000.

The cars ARE airbrushed, and if Toyota covered that, and you figure $3k a piece for custom paint jobs like the one seen here, that's $12,000 for 4. $112,000 + $12,000 = $124,000

I'm figuring this is how they came to the number. If Toyota didn't cover the tax title and licensing, I think it would still be reasonable to assume that the custom paint jobs were that much more.

Either way, WAY TO GO TOYOTA for donating economically safe vehicles like our Prii to Yellowstone National Park!! What a wonderful contribution!!

Government vehciles are not subject to tax, title, or licensing. The feds don't pay taxes - they collect and squander them.

Now how many 2-cycle Snowmobiles worth of emissions will those Prii make up for. (If I had my way NO SNOWMOBILE but willing to compromise and accept 4-cycle engines. )
