I read that generation 1 and 2 cannot be converted to PHEV but with little to no reasons why.

Can anybody give me the low down on this :)

    Thanks!!

If Gen 1 and 2 refer to Prius's made before 2004, then the answer is straightforward. There are not enough of them around to justify making a PHEV kit. It's still technically possible, and undoubtedly it has been done as an individual effort somewhere, but it's not worth the effort in most peoples view with so many 2004-09 models on the road.

the 1997-2003 prius doesnt have the pure EV mode ( mode specifically used to describe the operation in which engine is not allowed to come on at all ) built into the ECU, but by giving the car power battery power ( paralell battery packs ) i think it should increase gas mileage a lot

I'm confused. I stopped by the dealership today to pick-up a check and got into a conversation with one of the more senior sales staff about the 2-10's and plug-in. He was going on about Toyota coming out with a "plug-in conversion kit" for the 08-09's next spring. I've heard this from two different people at two different dealerships. Anybody know if there is any truth to this and, if so, what the price tag might be?

    A complete 2KW Li-ion conversion kit is available under $2000 on ebay # 200344551230

It works with Prius Gen 1, 2 and 3

    Check it out!
