    This thread may help?

But looking at it and "assuming," you have not messed up the threads? I would clean up all the dirt. Then pull off all the connections and with those out of the way, try and screw it down straight and sung, and then reconnect everything.

According to this thread, that large threaded ring with gasket needed to be replaced when the fuel filter/pump was changed.

Practice and as many attempts as needed until it threads on correctly- it just "feels" easier when it's started correctly. Definitely clean every bit of dirt out of the plastic threads on the ring and on the tank. Been doing these for years and it still can take me several tries.

Certainly could not hurt to change it out but it strikes me as overkill? I have deal with that setup on a few car's. And kept the original parts and never had an issue. But sure it could not hurt to change it those parts out. :)
