Has anyone replaced a Prius gas tank with the rubber lining with just a steel tank. I am just tired of pulling up to the gas pump with the low fuel light on and only get 6 gallans in the tank.
try filling up on the slowest pump setting. with the last pip flashing, in the summer you should get closer to 9+ gallons in. also try fueling at a different station, not all pumps are equal. if you're doing that, there might be a calibration problem that the dealer could look into. others here would know more about that than i would - i have seen threads on calibrating the fuel system - search... removing the bladder would defeat the low emissions engineering in the fuel system. hope this helps.
NO!! If you don't like just putting 6 gallons in the tank get a Hummer. Seriously, there is more to it than just changing the tank. Lots of electonic and enviromental issues.
combsad7, your frustration is widely felt, and this question has come up before. I wont even try to explain the byzantine nature of the fuel tank and associated systems. [The key word is systems, which means great complexity, and in the Prius, the liklihood that the computer(s) will start throwing codes and shut the ICE down if it starts getting bad info as from an attempted hack, work-around, bypass, etc.) Go here and witness the wonder of the fuel system at first hand: http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/Hybrid13.pdf I suspect you'd need a new computer(s) and... a basketful of $$$. The shorter answer is, "You can't get there from here."
Thank you for the fuel system pdf. I have read a lot about the Prius fuel system and after reading the pdf I see why. The first time(and every time) I filled my 2008 Prius with gas the fuel gauge would not move but after I drove it and made a sharpe right hand turn the fuel gauge reads full.
You are most welcome. Glad that I could help. I'm no expert, nor lawyer, but if this is a recurring condition, I would think fixing a sticky fuel level sensor, or having the inclinometers re-calibrated would be covered under warranty... it's a brand new car.
