Article already posted in another thread. Bad news travels fast. But like disco said in the other thread, they only sell a few hundred anyway.

This is really odd. I've just emailed TOYOTA AUSTRALIA hoping for an answer.

There is NOTHING on TOYOTA AUSTRALIA's "NEWS" page, NOTHING on their Regional page, NOTHING on their International page.

NOTHING in the Recalls page on TOYOTA's website. No recalls on the Government's Recall page.

Just 3 or 4 press reports.

And the list includes current models which have been out for several years - CAMRY and PRIUS. I asked them if it's safe to keep driving it!!!!

    ODD!!!

I really don't think how many they sell has much to do with the issue.
If there is a problem severe enough to have Toyota NZ halt sales, it should be investigated. The responsible thing to do is to halt sales, whether you've sold 10 or 1000.

From some of the available information it sounds like this might be a discovered problem with a specific manufacturing run, so maybe not a problem that would necessitate a global recall. But I'm glad that whatever the issue is specifically, it has been identified and is being investigated.

The linked piece say's "more to come" and I think that's it. Not enough revealed information at this point to come to any conclusions, other than I don't think it's a casual decision to halt sales.
Hopefully whatever the problem is, is investigated thoroughly and then whatever needs to be done, is done.
