When I bought my Honda Accord in 2000, the dealer tried to force the VIN window etching for $300. I didn't pay for it and my car still came with it. Fast forward twelve years and I'm looking at buying my first Toyota ever - the Prius c (model one or two). I want to get my Prius c without any extras, if possible. I guess I could special order one and play the waiting game if it came down to it. Here in Dallas Texas they are bundling these options on many Prius c's: * 3m Paint Protection Film * Vehicle Shield Package * Premium Security * Rear Bumper Protector
eww.. those dealer bundled options might sound great, but there is no doubt not worth the price they're probably charging.. you might have to play the waiting game.
I have a question about dealers doing things to cars too... My dealership appears to drill holes into the back of their cars to attach a nameplate to advertise the dealership. Do I have a right to ask them to not put that on my car when it gets here?
Just order the car you want. Tell your dealer that if they drill holes or slap stickers on the back of your car you will refuse to buy it. Stick to your guns, don't pay for things you don't want.
my dealership puts tint, paint protector, and its not a choice. there is so little profit in the car and they sell so fast. you just have to buck up, unless you can find one fresh off the truck.
Anytime i test drive a car and want to buy it, I always point to the plates on the front, and ask....Can I can it without the holes in the front? They always say yes. (so far, but I will never buy if they say no) If you have to order one without, do so. You can always say that you will take one from their lot, but only if the package is not extra in price. Maybe ask them to give you a call if they ever work that with their manager. Perhaps they will call you at the end of the month or quarter.
Oh there's a choice and it involves going to a different dealer that actually has a shred of respect for their customers. If a dealer tells you to buck up and pay for their extras, back up and go somewhere else.
