Prius C Cabin Air Filter not part of 2 year Toyota Care / need part #

If nobody has it u can walk into a dealer and get a printed quote. The part # will be listed.

 

The warranty and maintenance guide requires the cabin air filter to be changed at 30k miles.

 

What was their price?

 

I recently bought a replacement filter from my dealership and they said it used the standard cabin filter of many of their cars, they had a whole stack of them in red flat boxes right on the back wall of the parts counter and they were reasonably priced. I haven't put it in yet because the reason I bought it was my A/C was starting to get a mildew smell when first turning on which started happening when I took it on a road trip to Wisconsin. When I got home to Vegas the air must of dried it out because the smell is gone now so I'm just hanging on to it for when it really needs replacing.

It's the same as in Camry. I have changed mine with charcoal long time ago.

 

I was quoted $49.95 to replace the cabin filter at my 15K service. No, I didn't get it done.

I mentioned in the other thread. Go to Walmart, check the cabin filters for '10 or '11 Camry and you will find charcoal one for $15

 

Don't remember the exact model, but I will check when I will get back home tonight, but I believe this is the correct one from Walmart. But I will give the exact model later today.

I've checked my filter number, so here is the link to walmart, even though it seems they charge $19 for the filter, I believe I've paid around $16.

I took my Prius C into the dealership for its 20K service. Indeed they indicated that changing the air filters was not included in the service plan and they wanted $90 to replace both air filters. I've heard on this thread and elsewhere that it is easy to change the filter and it is suppose to be behind the glove box like the regular prius's but I don't see anyone confirming that. Also, the dealership told me that I had 2 filters that needed to be replaced. Are they in the same location or is there another filter somewhere else? Any help in actual instructions would be helpful instead of just saying 'tis easy.

The cabin air filter replacement is extremely easy. You don't even need a screwdriver. Search YouTube for some videos.

There's also an engine air filter and that does require removing a screw or two, but that's all. Super easy to do. The hardest part is finding the screwdriver that's rolling around somewhere in your junk drawer.

 

Cabin air filter is something I cannot get too excited about. It's nothing to do with the engine (obviously); it's an item that didn't exist until about 10~15 years back.

Ours has been in for a bit over 40,000 km's. I've pulled it out a couple of times, knocked stuff off, blew it out in reverse with a shop vac and reinstalled.

 

I replaced my own at 20k (it is not on the included schedule until 30k). It was pretty bad and stinky. It is behind the glove box, on the left; you need to squeeze the sides while pulling gently down on the empty box. Kinda hard to do the first time. Slide it out and slide in the replacement, which I bought at the chain parts store for $17. 5 minute job!

When I was in for my 15k maintenance a few weeks back I noticed the bill was higher than just a tire rotation. While I know it's covered by Toyota I asked the service rep about it to make sure they weren't doing my 20k oil change early or some other weird thing. The service rep stated that Toyota paid them more for the 15k service than just a tire rotation like the first 5k service was, and that this was likely to cover possible air filter replacements.

 

The new cabin air filter part number is 87139-YZZ08. For the charcoal cabin air filter the part number is 87139-YZZ10.

Dealer wanted $72.00 to replace mine at 15K service, I said no as the regular filter is about $16 and the charcoal is about $27 and I can do it easily.
