Does anyone have any source of information on the Prius and its carbon footprint? I've heard all sorts of stories about the high footprint when you consider the effort that goes into battery manufacturing etc. Supposing those stories were true for Gen 1, I would also suppose that things would improve over the years. Is this true?

Those myths have been debunked. They used poor math and incorrect assumptions. Most of a vehicle's impact occurs during its use, and Prii are definitely winners when it comes to minimizing emissions and reducing resource consumption.
