Prius 4 (Aus) : A Bit Pricey ?

    Whilst looking to upgrade to the Gen4 I was a little surprised by the price launch price. Below are some comparison costs with the drive away price to the right.

    Prius Gen4 $34,990RRP -> $39,196
    Prius v $34,700RRP -> $38,899
    Camry 'Special Price' -> $28,990 (Drive away)
    Corrolla $21,790 -> $25,673
    Yaris $16,490 -> $19,738

    The only 'premium' feature is active cruise control but its still misses out on leather seats, digital radio and Sat Nav. Hopefully the price will drop soon or at least be bundled with a low interest loan. I'm not buying a 40K car with our standard 7.5% car loans.

    What are the other markets prices like. Is it dearer than the 7-seater prius v ???

    we don't get the 7 seat v, but the v here is a little more than the lift back iirc. not sure if the accessories match up though. i do think it's more than camry, corolla or yaris though.

    Top model 2016 is about $2k less than a 5 seater top model Prius v in Canada.

    Yes, you can get cheaper cars, but they're not Prius, nor Hybrid. A Camry Hybrid is $33000, 35000 or, with the features on even base Prius $42500.

    In comparison with the previous model, I think it's good value, at least in base model - I can't see the value with I-Tech.

    Toyota's recommended DRIVEAWAY Price of Gen 3 on 7 March 2016 was $35770, I-Tech was $47500. Dealers were advertising both models for $3-5000 less at the time (and still have some in stock).

    Gen 4 was released with DRIVEAWAY Price of $38320 & I-Tech is $46480.

    For the extra $2550 over Gen 3, I think it's good value - it's got a bigger boot (trunk), has the cheapest Autonomous Cruise on the market and City braking (other than VW Golf which I wouldn't consider - CD player in glovebox, gearbox is so jumpy, brakes not progressive etc). I haven't managed a test drive yet, but it's reported to get more comfort, quieter, better handling.
