Prius 2010 compatible 15 inch steel wheels for Winter Tires ??

I've a fan of the Bridgestone Blizzak. As far as wheels go, try to find a set of used aluminum off an older Prius or from someone who "upgraded" from the 15's. The steel AND the winter tires will be very heavy. You will notice this not just in MPG, but acceleration and braking. I went with steelies on an older Miata, and wished I went the lighter route.

I did purchase the rims and determined that they will stick out about a 1/4" more than the OEM rims. Shouldn't cause any problems though. I am still trying decide what tire to put on. The nokia looked awesome but kind of expensive.

purchased 15" prius wheels on ebay for my 2010 V. they fit, thank goodness. was afraid they wouldn't fit and couldn't get a good answer from anyone at the dealerships about why they wouldn't. many told me that they wouldn't fit.
anyways, i am buying studded tires for them and was told my the tire dealer that 205/60/15's are closer to the height of the 17's. i know someone mentioned 195/65/15's are the correct size, and this is the size on the 2010's with the 15's stock.
any comments on this?
they also said the 195's are slightly taller than the 17's and will throw off the speedometer and mpg's more.

I heard the G2's wheels would fix. I was also told late model Corolla rims (alloy) would also fit (from a tire shop). I bought steels that fit Corolla and Subaru and VW. They are about a 1/4" more shallow than the OEMs so they will stick out a bit more from the wells. I am still waiting for snow to put them on though so don't have first hand riding info. They do fit on though.

My tire place tells me that I must buy a pressure sensor for each steelie (at about Cad$90 each) as they won't install the tires on a wheel which does not have it if the OEM has it. Apparently a car insurance issue. They told me they are liable if they let someone leave the store with wheels that do not communicate with the car's monitoring system... I tried a few places and they all say the same thing. So I decided to not buy any and change the tires each season.

 

Will be installing my 2008 15" winter alloys on my 2010 soon, so i will inform of any problems.
The dealership actually told me not to install wheel sensors if i don't want them. not sure what they would do themselves if they were installing. they just told me i'd have an annoying light on. guess they are not worried about liability.

 

What BS! I simply brought my wheels and tires in my other vehicle (van) and they never said word... more than happy to make a few bucks. I would think you could have told them the tires were for you old Corolla or something like that.

Now I suppose if I have brought the Prius in and they had to put the wheels on the car, it might have been a different story.

You are right that the 195/65/15's are not a particularly good dimensional match to the 215/45/17's. While the 205/60/15's are a close match, I prefer a narrower tire for winter, so I'm planning on getting 185/65/15 tires.

 

Have agree, was at the dealer pricing out tires, they said you can just run it with TMPS light on, but you need to get new nuts

 

I am thinking that is BS too. I know the lugnuts are made for alloy rims but they have to be compatible with regular steel wheels as the spare tire is a regular type rim. They may not look nice standing out but I plan to use them. In fact, I will probably put them on tonight.

If you do get new lugnuts, get the cap types so that your treads are protected.

 

Just to let everyone know, i put 2008 alloy prius wheels on my 2010 for winter with studs. Fit just fine. (dealer said they wouldn't fit.)
TPMS light blinks, but no big deal.

We did a test-fit of steelies on my V before I bought them. I was informed that, at least with the steel wheels I purchased, the lug nuts present with my 17s would function satisfactorily.

 

I wonder why can't you order snow weel sets by your new Gen3 car supplyer?

I'll do this by ordering my new car and the garage stores the weel sets till the summer when I need the weel sets again.

 

Unfortunately, in the United States, we don't function like that. It's a shame, really. I drove a Nissan Rogue the other day with all-wheel drive in the snow and it was miserable. We seem to prefer convenience over safety/functionality and this has given rise to things such as SUVs and "no-season tires".

While snow tires and wheels are actually available on vehicles as a factory option in Europe, sadly, they remain a mystery to most drivers here in the States.
