Prius 2008 Tires

    I have about 24,000 miles on my 2008 Prius. A sort of "thumping" sound has appeared. It is slight, but I can hear it when I driving. A tire person told me the treads are uneven from having been worn down. He recommended that I buy four new tires. Does this sound accurate?

    That sounds plausible. Do you know what is the current tread depth of the four tires; and were the areas of uneven wear pointed out to you?

    If you have 24,000 miles on your OEM tires, you are 20,000 miles past when they should have been replaced. The Goodyear Integrity tires should be replaced before the first snow, preferably before the first rain.

    The current tread depth is about 1/4". It is difficult for me to determine which way the areas of uneven wear pointed. They appear to be pointed out to me.

    I have to say my Integrities, with 18-22k, did pretty well with the storms this winter. I was surprised after having read so much about them here. I only got close to being stuck once, but it wasn't really the fault of the tires, and the other guy who was there was also having a bit of a problem.
